      Great on the surface, but not as pretty as it looks

      Pros

      Doing good work in the community, like litter cleanups and tree plantings. Great office and location. Staff are generally nice people and fun to be around. Good place to gain skills and experience early in your career.

      Cons

      The mission is ever changing depending on where the money comes from. Donors and corporate contracts drive programming, not community needs. Diversity is not valued and staff of color are kept in low positions. Don't expect to get promoted unless you look and act like management. Sadly, the other reviews are true. The CEO is very narcissistic. He is extremely charming at first, but punishing if you cross him. A lot of the dysfunction stems from the top leadership.

      Great Org, Not so Great Leadership

      Pros

      Work with great, passionate and fun people who love what they do. Love that everyday is something new. Work as a team for the most part. Able to work inside the office but also work within the community and actually see your hard work unfold. Flexible for the most part.

      Cons

      Executive Director is the pitfall for this organization. Although I appreciate his passion for the mission, after getting to know him more professionally and personally over the years, I have learned the passion is really for his ego. It's his way or no way. Credit is always to him and not to his staff. It's really a shame. Don't ever dare disagree with him, he will hold a grudge and eventually he'll act on that grudge in a very calculated way. Just be very cautious. You will drink the kool-aid and think he is wonderful, but you will learn that he is very much the opposite.

      Pros

      One of the few places where you can work outside and get a decent salaried job. You also get to work with a wide variety of people through neighborhood groups and volunteers. Some good and dedicated staff. You have decent amount of autonomy in your job.

      Cons

      CEO has spent his career there and he has a hard time separating himself and the organization. Puts himself first and craves being center of attention. He puts on a good front but lacks sincerity. Watch your back.
