Pros

Healthcare, vision, and dental benefits

Cons

LG Energy Solution (previously LG Chem) is a demoralizing and hostile work environment. The majority of the management are Korean Foreign Service Employees (FSE), of which utilize a completely different management style than is typical in American culture. Unfortunately, some of these FSEs are known for constantly berating and belittling their non-Korean speaking employees. These situations are often brought to HR’s attention, but when HR has no power to bring actual change, nothing ends up being done and the hostility worsens. In one such instance, a previous FSE at Holland who had been known for degrading his employees was REHIRED by the plant manager to work in Holland, despite his history. LG Energy Solution prefers employing “yes-men”, or employees that will follow all their orders, no matter how much sense these orders actually make for the business or the employees. This leads to countless redundant reports, useless initiatives being constantly rolled out, and many hours of unpaid salary overtime. LG Energy Solution Holland is VERY STRICT on salary tardies. All salary badge scans into and out of the building are monitored and compiled into a spreadsheet that is reviewed weekly by upper management. Anyone even 1 minute late must follow up with their manager. This all happens despite the constant need and expectation for salary team members to work late and on the weekends. Once again, HR is aware (and involved in) this practice and is powerless to stop it. The best defense against LG’s maniac practices? Working for a good Team Leader (manager) who actually has their employee’s best interest at heart and will stand up for their team. Even then, there is only so much that these managers can do to shield their employees from the hostile reality that is LG Energy Solution. The good news? Somehow automotive companies still see value in LG Energy Solution batteries and keep promising new programs/joint ventures with LG for their electric/hybrid vehicles. There is job security at LG if you can say yes, keep your head down, and show up on time. Even then I hope I’ve convinced you that this type of job security is not worth your sanity.

Pros

Pay is very competitive, benefits are good, coworkers are a treat to work with.

Cons

Management is uneducated and disorganized, there is a very clear difference in how the company treats Americans versus Koreans, the only choices for work schedule is steady 12 hour shifts, or a very unpredictable 8 hour shift. We often work 20+ days in a row. Machines are not well maintained, and production/quality issues are blamed on production staff instead of poor machine maintenance. Management has cut staff significantly, but continues to add more work, and is confused when we don’t meet expectations. There is no way to access the employee handbook as it’s not on ADP and they no longer make hard copies. Overall a very disorganized and chaotic company. Only reason to maintain employment here is difficulties finding it elsewhere.

Pros

The individuals in my department are wonderful. The relationships I have been able to develop with them have been a highlight in my tenure here. As my position requires me to be on the floor I am very grateful to the operators, leads, and supervisors that have mentored me and allowed me to grow into my role as an engineer. The other engineers are also incredibly welcoming and patient when it comes to new hires/training. All of us were thrown into the deep end when we started and because of that we are a very friendly group, not afraid to ask questions to each other, able to admit when we don't know something, and constantly trying to soak up information from each other to be better.

Cons

There is so much information that is actively withheld by upper management. It is so frustrating trying to communicate and receive any information let alone that is accurate. I never seen people in high up positions work so tirelessly to make the jobs of others so much harder or shut out their voices. It makes it very difficult to perform well in any role here because it does not feel like there is any support from people in positions of power.
