Pros

As a web developer at Layla, I feel truly involved with the problems we are solving in the mental health sphere since with our team-based, human-centred approach. Since we're always iterating and improving upon our products and services, there is a plethora of opportunities to improve your web development skills. And most of all, you will be recognized and rewarded simply by your contribution and dedication to the team and larger picture.

Cons

Since Layla is a startup (at the time of this post), you might be brought into help with tech activities which aren't necessary relevant to your growth as a web developer. However, it never really gets in the way since you are able to voice your concerns about what truly matters to you and your growth in your career.

Pros

There are so many opportunities for learning and growth. You have a team behind you that’s dedicated to building your skills and knowledge- I’ve since learned so much more about myself, my capabilities and my interest through my role and having the support of my manager. There is also the knowledge that the work you’re doing is important and impactful to individuals in their mental health journey.

Cons

As it is a remote position, there can sometimes be a blurred line between work life and home life. I’ve found it important to dedicate an area at home specific to work-related duties and managing my time online. There are benefits to remote work though, such as flexibility and no commuting.
