Exciting Work, Toxic Culture

Pros

Lincoln Center's work has international visibility, and the standards are accordingly high. Many coworkers are highly talented and passionate; incredible people are drawn here. Very good benefits.

Cons

Obsession with "professionalism" and "best in class" (as defined by entrenched white culture) hampers creativity and drives away BIPOC tired of microaggressions and unbalanced scrutiny (young clean cut white males seem to always get a pass and rapidly rise up the ranks). There has been dysfunction at LC for a long time, but in the last year the culture has spiraled. Infighting and sharp elbows are encouraged, and the worst impulses have emerged, along with rock bottom morale. Job anxiety is used as a tool to ensure compliance. This can be seen and heard across many departments.

Waste of the best years of my life.

Pros

Great people work at Lincoln Center. The best people leave as soon as is feasible.

Cons

If you’re a person of color, you can expect to stay in the position that you were hired for. In more than 5 years, I can only think of two people of color who have been promoted.

Pros

Depending on the department you can attend free performances. Smart mid-level staff.

Cons

3% yearly promotion and then they always raised health care. POC are not promoted. Hiring of young- right out of college in some departments with no experience as managers. No diversity in some departments. Exec team does not listen to staff regarding what needs to be improved. Board members have too much power. High leadership turnover.
