Pros

Previous HR (luckily they got out of this circus already) hired an amazing team to work with, for which I will be forever grateful (trauma bonding kicked well).

Cons

- Unfortunately all these great people that I worked with are leaving, burning out or getting fired for no specific reason (other than management disliking them...) - Management couldn't care less about the product itself or even the design industry. The lack of respect for the designers, their experience and opinions is just beyond me. All they care about is how to get their money by becoming the next Canva or Figma, which *surprise* is already existing and totally out of their reach. So be prepared for a new detatched strategy every week. - Salaries are a complete joke for the amount of work, stress and gaslighting you are going to receive, so if you are passionate about being able to afford decent lifestyle in a big city, just give up. Even if you get somehow a decent salary because you worked previously in some *cool* startup, you clearly gonna spend it on your therapy.

Obey Chiefs or be fired. "Spiders in a jar" games

Pros

The product is nice, latest tech stack is used, the team members are always ready to help, WFH option (so far, as far as I understand everyone should relocate to Berlin at some point)

Cons

Hierarchical structure where everyone should accept Chief's opinion, sharing your own vision is taken with aggression. New management team doesn't know what to do and not really interested in the product development, their main goal is to stay in favor of chiefs, obeying all they say and pushing it down to the engineers shoulders. The issue is trying to adjust enterprise approach in start up which brings a lot of stress and at the end of the day it strikethrough all cons, treating employees like a material, I've seen people were downgraded from leads or even fired with no objective reason. Spiders in jar games where same task/responsibility is shared between employees so they compete, the winner is the one who is closer to the Chief of course. And unpaid overtimes is a common thing. It wasn't always like this but thing got worst with new management which made me to update my CV and find a better place

Pros

As usual in Berliner start-ups, the team you directly work with is above and beyond great.

Cons

Where to start ... - The inequality seems fitting. There seems to be a pay gap between men and women, and while some women are in leadership positions, they are most likely not given the same weight in their decisions, opinions, suggestions, and it's giving the vibe that they act as the messenger of what their male, upper management peers decide. - Then there's the lack of diversity. Berlin is diverse y'all, can we a gree you can't call yourself diverse anymore by hiring one cis-het white woman to have a seat at the big table. Or any other table for that matter. - Salaries are below the Berlin average, according to the studies I checked. - Even so, you're required to give 150% and if you don't, I've seen people get fired before their probation ended because of performance misalignments. Although honestly, said people seemed to have actually been asked to do tasks that were outside of their black-on-white responsibilities. - On this note, some roles are kept quite vague and even though this comes from management, the person in question is held accountable if whatever they expected does not come to fruition. - Also on this note, management tends to sweep more responsibilities under your proverbial rug, without extra pay and they dangle the pay raise carrot for ages. You might end up managing a team or a department for many months without any extra compensation. - I'll end with meritocracy - a system which they do not seem to adopt. There's in my opinion favouritism towards hires that come recommended from upper management. Which, with small exceptions, tend to be cis-het German men. Surprise surprise. I've had a good time here, not gonna lie. But that's less to do with management, the company values (the non-existing ones), and their equally absent people-first policies. And more to do with the product, which is quite fun, alongside all the creatives who join the company because of it. Hope this helps!
