Great place to learn, not to earn high pupillage allowance
Pros
The environment is good — colleagues are generally friendly and are willing to teach. You get to learn a lot, especially if you ask for work and exposure. Depending on the timing, you may get exposed to different types of work, including civil litigation, conveyancing, and corporate files. You will even get to sit in client meetings and handle clients. Since it is a boutique firm, you will even get to learn how a firm is run, since you may need to do accounting work, e.g. billing clients. Colleagues do not bother you on weeknights and weekends unless it is very urgent work/deadlines, which is unavoidable in the legal profession.
Cons
If pupillage allowance amount is a dealbreaker for you and you are looking to earn market rate (approx. RM3,500.00 and above), this is not the place for you. Retention rate is low too, since their clientele is not as big and steady/stable as bigger law firms.
