Pros

Depending on the branch, you can work for great managers and with fun, helpful coworkers. I am lucky to work at a great branch. I like that the tasks are pretty varied throughout the day, so you don't get stuck doing one task for too long.

Cons

Lack of communication and system-wide standards are big issues within Live Oak. Lots of turnover, especially in upper management, so priorities seem to change often. Part-time employees are only needed to serve as fill-ins so full time workers get their lunch breaks. Part-time workers are left out of most meetings, which are always scheduled in the morning when we are not present. Often decisions made/communicated during these meetings are not promptly communicated with part-time staff, leaving us to feel out of the loop or not integral to the team.

Pros

Decent benefits Longevity pay Stable job security Consistent hours and scheduling Fairly relaxed and friendly work environment "Business casual" dress code is less business, more casual Employee Handbook has been revised within the last 3 years Training and webinars for career development strongly encouraged A great way to get to know your community

Cons

Very low pay, pay increases are tiny Inconsistent pay equity Little to no training for mid-level management - diversity training especially needed Not much attention paid to employee morale/dissatisfaction Hope you're comfortable wearing many hats/multi-tasking because you'll probably be doing a lot of "other duties as assigned" Leadership has been very unstable - 6 library directors in the last 5 years, including 1 acting and 1 interim 3 HR directors in the last 5 years Co-worker conflict not well-addressed, especially between supervisors and employees Inconsistent enforcement of library customer behavior policies Ability to move up in the company is very slow You'll regularly meet a lot of "eccentric" people - you might get spit on, or you might get homemade cookies

Pros

Great position if you want to be involved in your community. Holidays and most weekends off plus benefits depending on how many hours you work.

Cons

Dealing with people is not always easy, but can be very rewarding.
