Pros

-central and nice office -great cause and mission, wonderful work on the ground -average benefits but good parental leave pay and pension -international work environment -overall nice and competent colleagues

Cons

-below average pay, pay rise on inflation level, small bonus - huge discrepancy between pay for average employee and senior management (CEO ears more than CEO of Oxfam and Unicef) -bullying which comes from Senior management, know of at least 3 long-term employees who have been bullied and left -CEO and other senior directors work very hierarchical and removed from staff members, CEO used to speak to staff members and know their names, not anymore -overall CEO has too much power and can change strategy on a whim, does not get held accountable by board -little involvement from Founder who clearly doesn't know what's going on (maybe doesn't care?) -no training, no opportunities to progress - organization prefers to spend money on expensive consultants with little or no results or hire senior staff without opportunities for staff members to be promoted -only staff members who progress are working closely with CEO and get senior roles without open recruitment process -little care for staff wellbeing, staff even have to pay for their own Christmas dinner -weak HR team who don't stand up to senior staff, high turnover in HR team so issues conveniently don't get passed on or get swept under the carpet -no appreciation from senior staff or trustees -overall low morale and high turnover

Great cause but awful place to work

Pros

The people on the lower ranks are great, the mission is lovely and the international teams are lovely.

Cons

- Extremely low morale - under valued and unappreciated - bullying and prejudice is rife - no such thing as equal opportunities, women are purposely kept down - Senior management have serious tunnel vision and micro manage as they are to afraid to let go as it will be obvious the team could do better without them. -Senior management run the charity as their own personal business, full of their own self importance - senior management believe everyone should be grateful to work for Lumos and so should be happy to take any crap. After working for Lumos, i lost confidence in myself, I was depressed and over worked, constantly under achieved as senior management cannot make a decision and will not let you make any decisions. HR team is a joke. Charity does not practice what it preaches. Racism, bullying, prejudice and inequality as at the of the charity. If you want to further your career, don't work at Lumos

Pros

The mission of the charity itself is wonderful. Some of the people who work there are experts in their field, and very friendly and approachable.

Cons

- Unfortunately the people mentioned above tend to leave within a year. - Bullying and intimidation starts with the CEO and trickles down through egomaniacal senior management who run the organisation like it’s a private club. - Lower-ranked members of staff are routinely prevented from progressing or furthering their careers – instead they are given more work to do and told to call it ‘opportunity.’ - Prejudiced and bigoted attitude from senior staff are dismissed as ‘personality quirks’. - No transparency - everything from job security to the direction of the charity is kept hidden from the people it will affect. - The charity seems to be doing nothing to address the high staff turnover due to low pay, low morale, and no career prospects.
