Pros

Great way to get your feet in the door for PH work in Maine

Cons

Salaries are low, even by Maine PH standards. This company was great until they cut the employees benefits. The CEO told people who were concerned about their benefits being cut could happily leave. MCD mismanaged their money and is taking it out on the contracted employees not the leadership They took away Vacations and Sick time (both of which I had over 200 hours of and they did not pay us out for) and instead are only giving us 80 hours a year. They blamed sick people and people who attended funerals at our meeting. They cut the employee wellness reimbursement and professional development. ($1000) They plan to increase the employees contribution to insurance and decrease our retirement benefits . Biggest issue currently with them is how they handled this all. 11:30PM notifications without having staff meetings. More than a week later they shut down meeting for staff to ask questions because they did not like the question. The CEO, CS, openly and angrily said, if you don't like these changes, quit.

Thank you for providing your perspective and the impact of recent decisions on employees. This has been a particularly challenging time for our sector. MCD - like many similar organizations - has experienced some substantial changes that require us to manage unpredictability, adjust rapidly, and make tough decisions. We are committed to addressing employee concerns and continue to learn as we move forward. We hope the changes we made are temporary and will continue to evaluate the situation. If you have any questions or further discussion, please don't hesitate to reach out to HR.

Pros

-In the past, had offered good benefits as part of their total package.

Cons

Because of financial mismanagement they have decided to take away all earned vacation and sick time over 80 hours from those who are directly doing the work in the US programs. Employees were made aware at 11:30 at night that their earned benefits were taken away effective immediately. The following morning, over 30 people were fired and over 15 people furloughed. Company management claims they had no choice but to act quickly, but strangely enough, they still had time for their own meetings to discuss their options, how they would do it, and to consult with lawyers to ensure it was legal. (When they took away those earned vacation hours, they no longer had to pay them out to people who got fired the next day) They have been happy to stick by this decision, with tone-deaf responses to worker dissatisfaction in regards to the lack of communication and clarity. To those affected who have spoken up concerned for the future benefits cuts (which MCD has laid on the table as an option) and asked for transparency, MCD has responded strongly; issuing write-ups and threatening disciplinary action across the board.

Pros

Benefits were a pro until they were rescinded.

Cons

MCD emailed Maine CDC embedded staff that accrued time off had been forcibly forfeited because of mismanaged funds. They attribute this deficit to staff using more accrued sick time than anticipated. There is discussion that staff may need to pay 100% premiums to maintain medical benefits.

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the recent adjustments to time off for some MCD employees. Due to financial constraints, we had to make swift decisions to ensure responsible use of funds. Sick leave usage was just one factor among several considered. Management is reviewing health insurance premium options, such as shifting some of the monthly premiums to employees, however, we will not consider any option where the employee share is more than 40%, and as feasible, lower. We understand that sudden changes can be frustrating and appreciate your feedback. If you have any questions or further discussion, please don't hesitate to reach out to HR.
