Oppressive Work Environment, No Growth

Pros

Co-workers that are in the trenches with you are passionate and want to create great things

Cons

- The CEO and Executive Leadership are either abusive, negligent and or will fire employees for simply getting on their bad side, thus leading to an overall sense of dread and fear as to who is going to get fired next. You can do everything right, but if they just don't like you, they will find a reason to get rid of you eventually. - Executive Leadership is also completely disconnected with what our audience wants, likes, and is really only concerned with what will make them the most money in the immediate future. Projects that would either have a good chance at success are often times snuffed out before it's ever been given a fair chance. - HR is compliant with the abusive behavior of the executive staff, and will often times try to smooth over disputes that employees have with the company, either by stringing them along or deflecting responsibility onto someone else. - Turnover rate is abysmal, employees with actual industry experience and skills leave quickly once they find out there's no way to grow here. - Crucial lead positions often times are given to people with little to no experience, who happen to have just been in the company for a long time, or are personally connected with people in charge.

This Studio is an Abusive Relationship

Pros

Many amazing team members are clearly passionate and a joy to work with. They often hire entry-level talented people so it can be a jumping-off point. Health, dental, eye and 401k

Cons

- High turnover rate - There is little opportunity for growth and top performers are not rewarded - HR complaints do not result in any change - Upper management is out of touch with the day-to-day realities of the studio - Upper management uses top-down control and manipulation - Leadership lacks technical expertise, meaning they lack direction and understanding of best practices - Nepotisim - Female staff are verbally harassed. As soon as you are relaxed someone will get harassed, fired, or both. It's sad because parts of this job are great but I could never recommend anyone I care about work here given the abusive dynamics.

Problems Abound

Pros

Great creative young teams. So much to learn from everyone from all types of backgrounds and skills. Connecting with others in the industry is fantastic. People in office like to work together and teamwork is encouraged.

Cons

The CEO is never present except when he comes in town to stir things up in the office. There are serious problems with upper management including abusive and misogynistic behavior and an overall lack of real world experience. Industry professionals are being driven out by poor decision making.
