Pros

Students, families, and most of the teachers are fantastic.

Cons

Cold and militaristic place for students and teachers. Incompetent leadership, donors and founders care more about the students becoming good workers than anything else. Also, the mission is pretty gross.. "preparing students to gain acceptance to and graduate from college to ultimately become valuable contributors to the workforce and their communities." Students are already valuable, whether or not they are "valuable contributors to the workforce"!

There is a lot of financial support and a lot of good intentions for serving a specific population -- black and brown students in an economically disadvantaged area.

Cons

Every decision from the top seemed political, not pedagogical. An obsession with "data-driven instruction" was so poorly handled that students were never given a legitimate assessment. However they were judged (as were the teachers) on how they scored on assessments that, due to technical glitches, had not accurately recorded the student responses.

The Admin has no idea what they are doing. The CEO is a bully. The work environment is toxic. No one stays. If you have opinions that differ from the CEO you are targeted. If he doesn't like you, you won't make it. The leaders have no backbone and allow him to use them as puppets
