Great Students and Coworkers, Poor Leadership and Ethics

Pros

- The students are wonderful and many of the coaches and directors are passionate, caring people. - Activities can be fun such as hiking, paintball, and other things around town. - Some freedoms and creativity with how you do your job in most roles.

Cons

- There was an ever- expanding divide between the executive team and the staff who worked on site with students directly. I saw this regularly lead to controversial and uninformed decisions and policies made by higher ups that were often unfair and/ or very difficult to implement which negatively impacted students and staff. -In many ways there was a toxic and dysfunctional culture again seeming to stem from the executive team being out of touch or at odds with their staff and students. There was regular turmoil and t leadership was often reactive to feedback, played favorites, and gaslighted and undermined staff and students despite legitimate concerns and perspective being expressed. - The organization often felt very hypocritical when it came to accessibility, inclusion, and respect towards the students and staff it claimed to support. While some steps were made to address these issues they usually backslid and ultimately were not given the time, energy, and resources needed to address the real issues. - Unrealistic expectations of staff and an unwillingness to increase staffing especially on the coaching level despite clear and consistent need. Staff who were in charge of supervising other staff were often given little training or support in how to do this effectively. Pretty much everyone was overwhelmed most of the time.

Pros

I've witnessed the growth and success that comes from being at Mansfield Hall - for both parents and students. In my role, I felt like I was contributing to a broader mission of making higher education more accessible. Lots of great people work here - many care about the work they are doing and know how to build genuine connections to support students. Staff are very welcoming. If you are fresh in your professional career, this is a great place to build some experience. Company pays fair wages and there are excellent health benefits if you work full time.

Cons

Private pay program - it means that you get to do really great work for a select few students that have the financial means to enroll in the program. Many staff have called for scholarship or financial aid opportunities so that the program could be open to a more diverse group of students, but these requests were quickly dismissed as "we tried that and it didn't work.” Poor supervision. Leadership does not give appropriate guidance for middle management on how to be strong supervisors and this trickles down throughout the company. Nepotism continues to be an issue at this organization. As someone that entered this role with an advanced degree and several years of experience, it's frustrating to think about how much more money and advancement I might have had if I went to summer camp with the President. Organization does not have clear system for hearing or responding to employee feedback. I did not get the impression that upper level management is interested in actively listening to staff about challenges or that they are planning to change how they run the organization (I didn't even have an exit interview). Many staff have left because of these frustrations. Because your employment at Mansfield Hall is "at-will" you can be fired at anytime for any reason. I've seen a number of colleagues very swiftly and unjustly lose their jobs here.

Pros

Amazing kids/ students! Free coffee/ tea

Cons

I'll agree with most of the reviews here. Bad management from higher-ups who if at all are never there and hostile work environment from some staff/ management. Mindless work and repetitive tasks, meetings that produce little to no results or change in student life. Recently a manager that was definitely doing a great job in my opinion and experience here (kitchen manager) has "found other employment". Upon having a conversation with them, that was not the case. According to txts and voice recordings the cfo pushed them to leave and to go improve their skills elsewhere and to not say anything bad about Mansfield hall or how they were asked to forfeit the kitchen manager position because it would make "Mansfield hall look bad". This blew my mind because it's not the first time I've suspected this of happening to other positions but, this time I saw and heard everything. Another is a recent coach who was also pushed out, a director, and countless others throughout my time here. Soon I will also be leaving. I'm sick of this place constantly removing people or pushing them out for some of the dumbest stuff I've ever heard of all while the higher-ups are noticeably out of touch and treat people with disabilities very poorly. I am not proud to work here.
