Soul destroying company to work for! Avoid

Pros

- Some nice colleagues from the graduate schemes (who quickly left for better opportunities) - Friday drinks and going to some of the events - You can leave at 5:30...

Cons

- A lot of fake reviews posted in October, when at least 2-3 people leave every month! The company is a revolving door - Horrible office culture and extremely depressing and soul destroying environment to work in - No break out areas, forced to have lunch at your desk or leave the office - Terrible working conditions! People are crammed in like sardines. An old church with no windows; freezing in winter and unbearably hot in summer - Very stuck in their ways and the way they do things - Lack of investment in employees and zero care for their needs

Luck of the draw

Pros

+ Laid back office culture with friendly atmosphere + Good working hours + Relatively low pressure with understanding sales managers + Accessible CEO who is always willing to help + lucrative commission structure (see cons) + opportunities to progress and take on additional responsibilities (and earning potential) for good sales people

Cons

- Your experience will vary massively depending on what publications/events you are working on. Some are lucrative market leaders, some are absolute disasters that will never hit a sales target. Do your research before you accept a job offer. - Some poor senior managers who have only been promoted due to length of service - Sales revenues often take priority over editorial quality (good if you're in sales, bad if you're an editor) - Low basic salaries and if you're selling on a bad brand commission can be virtually nothing

A mis-managed company that takes advantage of passionate workers

Pros

Fast career development and some really lovely colleagues.

Cons

The company is really poorly run, as shown by the high turn-over rate. Everyone is overworked and just scraping by, and the inconsistency in pay across the board is a joke. The HR don't intervene when needed, the mismanagement means that 'budgets' limit the support that people can receive when they are sick or book a holiday. No pay rises, even in line with inflation sometimes, are possible because of this system - and if you ask for one you are made to feel guilty for being greedy. When a skilled high-level employee leaves they are replaced with a graduate, which is insulting to the role and a poison chalice for the grad when they fall behind due to the incessant and ever-growing workload on minimal pay. This is made more insulting by the public knowledge that the Allen family take home millions every year, made off of the back of this exploitation.
