Pros

Positive culture, professionals working hard at changing the automotive stereotypes. Genuine focus on Customer experience.

Cons

From a past Manager I would say the biggest con is the companies inability to hire enough staff to allow growth, this leads to over working existing employees and a high burnout rate.

Pros

I started at Maverick Car Company in July 2018 and left the company in June 2022 on excellent terms and I would happily return in the future. Like most, I was extremely skeptical and reluctant to even apply for any role at a "used car dealership" let alone actually work at one. Fast forward some 4 years later and I couldn't be happier with my decision to pursue a career at Maverick. I started out in the Internet Department handling inbound leads for sales and worked my way to a sales leadership role, which I enjoyed. Like any role, there are highs and lows but as the team continued to grow/improve the highs definitely outweighed the lows. I was fortunate to have so many opportunities throughout my time there and to continue to learn. After a few years on the sales side, I applied for the Consignment Manager position. I wanted this role because it gave me the ability to take full ownership of a department which I embraced. Mind you, prior to working at Maverick Car Company I was a business owner for 14 years. I understand what it takes to develop a department and the effort/energy it takes to run a company. I have always had an entrepreneurial heart/mindset which I believe was the reason I earned a spot on the leadership team. In this role, I worked closely with the owner and the rest of the leadership team for the last year and a half of my time at Maverick. I learned a ton and had so many opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. In this new role, I was tasked with setting and upholding Maverick's high expectations and helping build the team. I loved it! However, building a team comes with ups and downs. This means you are responsible for hiring A-Players and letting those go that are no longer rowing in the same direction, do not fit the core values, or lack the desire to improve. If you are content with being “ok” or even “good” this is not the place for you. I see this as a positive but many don’t. It’s clear throughout the interview process that this is NOT a place for people that are just looking for a “job”. Maverick is looking for A-Players or folks aspiring to become A-Players. People who are looking to make a difference. People who are looking for a career. Many say they want these things but when push comes to shove…they actually don’t. I found over the years that the majority say they want to be A-Players but VERY few are actually willing to put in the work and do what it takes to become one or maintain that A-Player status. I can tell you from experience that you will appreciate the “long” interview process when you are on the other side. You will realize that the hiring team is doing its absolute best to surround you with like-minded people. This is one of those benefits that don’t show up on your paycheck stub but I can assure you it is invaluable in the day-to-day. As I stated above, I left Maverick Car Company in June of 2022. I wanted to spend more time with my family and my growing kids. To this day I still talk with the owner and many of the folks on the team and even talk to many of those that have moved on. I miss the team camaraderie, the fun all-team meetings, and of course birthday celebration shenanigans. I decided to write this review for those questioning whether or not to pursue employment with Maverick Car Company. I have done my best to be open and honest so you know exactly what you are signing up for. Of course, perception is reality and I am writing this review based on my personal experience. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you there are struggles and things that are not 100% figured out. However, I can say the pros most certainly outweigh the cons. Maverick is a small business in pursuit of being great and you shouldn’t expect perfection. This is exactly why Maverick is always looking for great people to help get them where they want to go! I feel it is noteworthy to let folks know when I am ready to continue my career I will look to Maverick first because of the experience I had during my four years with the company.

Cons

Finding great people takes time and it can be a slow process. This can weigh on the team at times but it is something I know they have been working on.
