The owner’s arrogant and capricious approach to this business will doom you from the start. He talks a good talk for about a week. This company is a case study on what happens when someone makes a bad decision and rather than admit it, and correct it, follows the bad choice down the rabbit hole. We were provided with “state of the art” hardware and software that had been “thoroughly tested” only to find out after two weeks of being on hold with the help desk, the hardware/software combination of his choice was not supported, or recommended, by the vendors. All the while, the owner vehemently insisting the issue was not the hardware platform he chose. In addition, his disregard for standard business practices has made his company legendary as an example of the worst locums company ever among certain California medical groups. He truly believed his bad business decisions did not affect how former clients saw his company.
The owner is the king of disruption, only to get irritated when activity isn’t where he thinks it should be. He will walk into the office mid-day and start rapid firing questions without regard to staff activity. You may be on the phone, replying to an email, or crafting a job post. Woes unto you who are not prepared to answer his questions on those rare occasions he actually lets you give a full reply without interruption. The repetitive nature of his questions was proof he wasn’t listing to answers, or giving any credence to facts, or evidence, in support of what you said. He regularly pulled key production people off line, during prime calling hours, to talk about esoteric business theory or where the company will be in 10 years. He was oblivious to the fact that the company wasn’t going anywhere with his chief sales person spending hours listening to his rants instead of being on the phone generating new business.
Take the time to read previous posts from former employees regarding late pay! This behavior continues. The owner expects you to honor the terms of his employment agreement, but seldom pays you on the dates set forth in said agreement. He also expects you to bring a book of business with you when you walk in the door, despite the obvious legal violations, that could imply for you with your previous employer. The only common denominator in this company’s continued medical staffing failure is the owner!
