Pros
There are several staff members at the headquarters and in the field who bring great experience and go above and beyond in their work. The vision of the organization is very important overall.
Cons
The toxic work environment is palpable. Everyone is leaving, many without even getting another job first. If things continue, it's safe to say that every position in the headquarters will have a turnover in 2021. The lack of respect shown to staff members at all levels by the board of directors is shocking. Staff are treated as though they are easily disposable if they disagree with a few board of directors members, and all staff members are aware of this. The morale was extremely low, to a point that many people have given up on trying to improve things. Salaries are very, very low especially for staff in coordinator and officer roles, and for field staff. Questions of raises have been actually laughed at. There were no salary scales when I left, and no indication that this would change, so the salary decisions are often based on the manager, and this has led to biases creeping in for sure. The program decisions being made are constantly teetering on the edge of unethical. They are ultimately being made and vetoed by board of directors members who do not know what they are talking about. It feels like this INGO is heading towards a major issue.
