Great place, great people

Pros

Even though it's been in business many years, Merlot always feels young, smart, and fresh. The leadership is engaged with the staff, and they get great accounts, too.

Cons

Management expects your best, so second-best need not apply. That could be a "con" to a B-player (as Steve Jobs would call them), but actually an incentive for an A-lister.

Chaotic and fear-driven = odd culture

Pros

I really enjoyed working with a lot of fun, creative people with a wide variety of personalities. I worked really well with two of the supervisors I had during my time there, but the third was really disorganized so most of my time was spent trying to keep him organized and on track. I enjoyed the challenge of agency life and how it is constantly changing and something new is going on.

Cons

I didn't realize how bad being at Merlot Marketing was for me until I left and joined a new company that has amazing culture and work/life balance. Merlot killed my creativity by being a culture that runs on fear and awkward moments. For me, the culture was very "no" or "can't do that" than the can-do attitude that I was expecting.

Pros

The agency is filled with talented, driven individuals. The leadership maintains high expectations, but they also walk the walk. The CEO and VP are often the first to arrive and last to leave. They strive very hard to develop each team member so that they can be client-facing experts in their given areas.

Cons

Ruined me for being able to tolerate cheap wine.
