Horrible Management - Apply Here at Your Own Risk

Pros

Co-Workers (excluding management) are awesome, some cool things like going to events

Cons

I see management has been pressuring employees to write 5 star reviews on here! It’s been a while since I’ve worked here. I was fired for no reason - numbers were good, no other issues. They tend to do that at random. The managers were cowards and couldn’t even tell me to my face - they sent the accountant to do it. To be honest, it was the best thing that happened to me. I now have my dream job and no longer have to endure the toxic management here. The higher ups couldn’t manage their way out of a hole in the ground, so they resort to instilling fear in their employees. They have no idea how to guide or lead people. They just say “do it” and threaten to let employees go if numbers are bad. Forget being successful here - the managers have a few favorites who they feed “important” accounts to and you’re left scrounging for scraps. It’s sad because they’ve lost a lot of talented people this way and other gems who, with the right guidance, could have been superstars. I actually look at New Times now and shake my head. I feel sorry for all of them; even the managers, who go through life woefully ignorant that there are better - and more productive - ways. Apply at your own risk.

Pros

Young culture and coworkers. There are a few outside perks like going to events, etc.

Cons

Low pay. Gender bias. I've witness women writers being treated negatively in the newsroom.

Pros

Silly, party atmosphere sometimes. There have good benefits. You have weekends off. I like my co-workers. There are a few outside perks like going to events, etc.

Cons

Where do I start? Oh, from the top. The publisher and director are the worst managers I've ever come across. They have no idea what they are doing. Because they never took the time to actually learn how to manage and motivate a team, they manage out of fear. RARELY do I hear praise. Forget expecting a "great job!" here and there. They just fired a co-worker - out of nowhere. The co-worker was doing a great job. She was selling more than others and one day they decided no and let her go on the spot. It didn't even look like they discussed it but who knows with them. An employee who was revered around the company left a couple of months ago because it's so horrible. He was amazing but saw it was a sinking ship because of how they handle everything. Everyone has low morale. Everyone is looking for a new job. They barely know how to set goals so you don't know how you're doing. Another bad part is no advancement. If you want to move up in an organization, look elsewhere. Save yourself a lot of misery and headache. Skip over this job! Run for your life.
