Thank you for writing this review. One of the great things about Microchem Laboratory is the amount of scientific learning and development available to staff. Thanks for recognizing that.

Pros

If you're completely desperate for lab experience this place is it.

Cons

There's a reason no one stays for much longer than a year. People leave in droves. Highly unprofessional environment which includes publicly shaming individuals and open cattiness. Easily the most aggressive micro-managing at a company I've ever seen. Employees are overworked, often under-trained, & underpaid. The benefits are so bad you might as well not have them. No room for career growth--- the place is a permanent "start-up".

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the company. Unfortunately we just can't seem to see your perspective on this one. Statistics show our turnover is below industry averages, we have many staff who stay for the long haul, and the experience budding scientists get at Microchem is truly extraordinary.

Disappointing

Pros

Normal business hours 8-5. Fast paced environment that allows you to build laboratory and microbiology skills. 401K (inadequate but they do offer it) Scientists are nice and helpful. 5 year trip incentive

Cons

Toxic work environment. Poor management. Inadequate benefits. Lunch hour unpaid. Breaks are not allowed. Upper management is unprofessional, will openly discuss promotions as well as scold/ ridicule employees publicly. Hard to maintain momentum and meet deadlines if you want to have some work-life balance. No true HR department. Managment writes positive reviews on Glassdoor or requires employees to write favorable reviews. Typically a bad review is followed up by 2-4 positive ones and managment will go on a “witch-hunt” to figure out who wrote the negative one. Company will not give references. Growing pains are causing most employees to feel overworked and underpaid. No formal training processes. “Sink or swim mentality.” Almost everything in the lab is too old, needs to be fixed, doesn’t work or is rigged to operate. Managment ignores these needs due to expense he deems unnecessary. Upper management micromanages team leads. Daily safety concerns (hand washing and glove disposal) ignored by management.

Thank you for sharing your perspective on Microchem Laboratory. Thanks for appreciating our ordinary work schedule. That's something we've worked hard to keep because we know the staff like it. Like you, we also love a fast-paced work environment and building our skills as microbiologists. Unfortunately we don't know what you mean, specifically, when you refer to toxicity in the work environment. Feel free to reach out to the lab manager or owners to let them know if it's really something concerning, that you think they should know. We also don't know what you mean by "poor management" so unfortunately we can't use that feedback productively either. With regard to your note about staff retention, we're all over it. We have several initiatives we're working on to keep people at Microchem for their entire careers. We recognize the value in the soft skills our staff learn after 2, 5, and 10 years. We note you approve of the CEO in your review so we interpret your statement about management bullying to refer to a team lead our our lab manager. We'll keep a sharp lookout for that. Everybody is valued at Microchem and no one should feel bullied.
