Horrible Management

Pros

Coworkers are nice and fun to work with. The labs and equipment are nice and up to date.

Cons

Training is very unorganized and limited. They will train you on the bare minimums of the job, but never any further so there isn't room for advancement. Raises are infrequent and rare. Management is awful. At this company they only hire you as a temp through Noll for $13.50 and they will string you along for months and months saying they are going to hire you on full time. Trying to get hired on full time is a very long process, they take their time on hiring their temps, which makes them lose a lot of great employees. It can take over a year to actually get hired on. Once you're hired on they tell you that you'll start at the least $15, don't except more, you will not get it.

Pros

About the only pros are their benefits. PTO is decent at 16 days per year and 6 holidays. Health insurance is great. Retirement is decent with only employer contributions structure.

Cons

- management is clueless to what your workload consists of - no performance based raises -raises limited to once a year, typically 3% for cost of living - HR department turnover is outrageous resulting in a HR department not familiar with employees or company culture - company is constantly growing, which means growing workload and stagnant wages - performance reviews every 6 months but no review of management or supervisors - wages are below industry standard in Omaha - politics of hiring through temp employees gives employees short end of the stick almost always. E.g. temps working without benefits for up to a year before brought on internally - minimal advancement opportunities. Chances to learn other tasks and duties but doesn’t come with a raise. Handful of QC positions and management positions that are tenured and never available to employees.

Pros

This family-owned company distinguishes itself with an executive leadership team that seems engaged in their employees. The CEO in particular drives this model. You will be made to feel like you're a part of something, and not a nameless, faceless number. It is a wonderful opportunity for younger people with general science degrees to get in and get their careers going, as others have said. May not be the right place for more seasoned laboratorians.

Cons

There is an unusual amount of emphasis on soft skills and "core values", especially given that this is supposed to be a fast-paced, 24 hour TAT, nose-to-the-grindstone commercial laboratory. You can be one of the work horses with hard skills that gets the job done, but if you butt heads with the soft skilled show ponies you'll fall into disfavor quickly. And then they'll never let you forget it. I would recommend this company under two conditions: that you are a direct-to-hire and not brought in as a temp (see other comments), and you can be sure your personality either fits with, or can adapt to, their culture. Otherwise you'll be miserable.
