It's a job, not a career.

Pros

The selection of medical benefits is great. Most companies do not offer more than 1-2, but VHT has several to pick from. Open PTO policy is great, if you use it. A lot of people abuse it though.

Cons

VHT is made up of a lot of millennials in the development and support side and unfortunately with that comes a lot of laziness and entitlement attitudes. Most (not all) complain about their salaries and feel entitled to take off as much PTO as possible. And with an "open PTO policy", this may mean 5+ weeks.... Five weeks for someone just starting as a junior is quite a lot. But alas, that is the millennial attitude: entitlement. And that attitude is welcomed at VHT. It sometimes seems the "squeaky wheel gets the grease and never replaced" at VHT. VHT's culture is to pass the buck until you find someone who is willing to figure out the problem and find a solution for you. VHT says they are a "team" but really only a handful of people there have strong ethics and principles, so unfortunately the same people solve the same problems over and over. So one will quickly realize who to forward emails to, ask questions to, who to call at 2am for a customer problem, etc. VHT likes to "talk" about the company problems a lot...but there is little action to fix the problems or fixes may take months or years. One problem that did get addressed was the 401k match. It is now 2%. You definitely won't be able to retire from VHT with your 401k only, so working a part time job after retiring will be something you will need to do if you make VHT your one and only job. VHT seems to have a "do whatever you want" motto. You can burp and fart as much as you want, come and go as you please (if you even come to work at all), talk 8+ hours of non-work talk per day, play games all day, take a nap, watch videos all you want, etc. I'll admit this does seem great at first, but for those of us that actually want to be productive, VHT sometimes makes it nearly impossible to get anything done at all. VHT seems to have quite a bit of turnover rate. This can be a red flag for the company so if you do happen to get an interview here ask a lot of questions about the turnover rate and the reasons these people left.

Terrible leadership and culture

Pros

If you are "in" with upper management you can't do wrong. In general, the pay is very competitive

Cons

Management and leadership is terrible. The CEO has an ego that prevents him from being able to accept constructive criticism and surrounds himself with sycophants. The sycophants are oblivious to their limitations and people not in upper management are miserable. People are treated horribly. The goal of the company is solely to make money and to get acquired so if you're looking for work here, I would have a backup plan.

Solid company - growing opportunity

Pros

Most employees are very tenured and know more about the industry and customer needs than a typical software company. New management appears transparent and looking to take the company to the next level. More challenging, but it has been rewarding thus far. Expanding footprint with a new office in Nashville.

Cons

Lots of change over the past few months - workload does not appear very balanced across departments/people.
