Worrisome Traits in Minibar, No acknowledgment of shortcomings
Pros
You work from home: -There are better jobs to work from home. You get NY minimum wage: -Which can be nice if you live somewhere else but we’re still talking min wage… The job is simple and can be learned within three days: -Your training will consists of a bunch of info thrown at you that doesn’t really matter. -Expect to be re-trained by your fellow employees since they actually know what they’re doing. Your coworkers are nice: -I say this because the team really is the best. The problem is we’re all so overworked and tired of the issues in the company that any positivity in the team has vanished.
Cons
Misinformation: -This company will lie to you. They purposely keep important information from you. Unmanageable availability requirements: -You are required to submit 52 hours of availability which means a sure bet of giving away your weekends and evenings. This means you’ll likely be working the last shift and then waking up to work the first morning shift. Split shifts are common. Trust me, it gets increasingly maddening. -You are required to submit evening and weekend time. Expect to do this despite what they may say in your interview. No flexibility in picking up/denying shifts: -The shifts you are assigned, you must take. You’re sick? You still work. You have another pressing engagement? You still work. It's incredibly difficult to get your shift covered. -Expect to still be assigned shifts that you blocked out as unavailable, despite management’s promises to the negative. It’s getting tired, Minibar. Unprofessional bosses: -Shift leads and pod leaders do not seem to have the knowledge or experience to manage the team. -Will forget about meetings and leave you waiting in your free time. -Not available to help, despite it showing that they are there on the schedule. Demanding and abusive customers: -This is expected in customer service. People reach out mainly because they’re mad. Except it won’t just be them. Expect to be yelled at and insulted by the very stores you are partnered with, to no fault of your own, and with no support from your own management. Constant negative feedback from bosses: -Calls are the most important metric. Even if you’ve devoted your time to help a customer make a $1k+ order and made sure it went well. You haven’t answered a call in an hour, ergo, you’re in trouble. -You can get in trouble or a ‘stage zero’ for not answering pings in a timely fashion. This does not apply to shift leads on duty that are there to help you. Mind numbing work: -You will find that in the middle of your 4-9 hour shifts, your brain has actually shut down and you are on autopilot. You are smarter and more worthy than this. Please find a different job that at least gives you come happy moments and doesn’t melt your brain. Main Cons of Minibar: I have worked at Minibar Delivery through many different changes and additions to the team. During that time, I found an increasingly amount of worrisome traits. First of all, I admire every single person in this company for sticking around while ridiculous demands were made and our suggestions for improvement were ignored. Don’t expect your concerns or requests to be met. Now here’s the most worrying part about Minibar: They do not care about you. An employee can enter a job and know that they need to conform to the company and do their best to fit in. Over time, you’ll bond with your fellow employees and can rely on them if you need to. Except you can work in this company for a year or more and guess what? You have nothing to show for it. There are very few shift leads and moving up is rare and difficult unless you’re already friends with management. Even then, moving up will mean one promotion that pays a measly amount and gives you more than twice the work. It means being told you have authority to make decisions but no actual voice to change things or help the company improve. This toxic environment creates employees who do not share their concerns about the company and almost always do the bare minimum of work because they are miserable. I am not speaking just for myself. I know for fact that while working and chatting with my colleagues, that they are as miserable as I am on shift. People will not do their best in the workplace if that workplace is toxic. This is common sense, Minibar. To my fellow employees and managers trapped in this job, please rip the bandage off this festering wound that is working for Minibar Delivery. You are good people that deserve to be treated well and should stop making excuses to stay.
