Pros

- Flexible work hours - Learning opportunity

Cons

Where should I start? First of all, just don't waste your time reading through the most recent happy reviews - they are most likely from directors who want to erase the true real feedback of employees. If you are a part of ANY minority (specially women) just run away. This company has an extremely toxic environment, you will see nepotism, gender discrimination and even racism on a daily basis. HR will reply to this review by saying they are doing their best to improve but when you actually speak up about something the only thing you get is exposure and gaslight. Every week someone leaves or gets fired. The product is a mess, the company focused on growing in numbers before investing on structure.

Pros

- Friendly colleagues and managers - Interesting product and challenges - Lot of opportunities to learn

Cons

- No longer founder run (it is run by investors who are a private equity company) - both founders have left the company and the company has gotten worse since they left - 25% of the company was laid off abruptly - Pay is below market for engineering/product people - Stock option plan is grossly misleading. Does not follow the standard 4 year vesting schedule with a 1 year cliff. Do not join purely based on options they give you. - Goals are set based on what the investors care about with very little attention paid to what users want - Management is pushing RTO since they bought a fancy new office and are now trying to justify the expense. This is a joke. Most of the management don't live in Montreal and when they come to Montreal they stay in fancy hotels right near the office and expect the rest of us to commute 2 hours a day

Cons

Since the company has received investment and the top management has changed - the company environment is not the same. It’s a negative change. 1). High hierarchy - you can’t speak with a top manager about business, work, or ideas unless it’s your direct manager. In my team, we were supposed to communicate only with a direct manager who will afterwards push our ideas as his.
Otherwise, it can get you fired (despite your professionalism, connections and reaching the goals). 2). No potential for growth if you have different ideas from your manager or you are not his friend, his ex-colleague etc.
Lately, q lot of hires are made based on relationships. Your professionalism, years in the industry or connections within the industry are not taken into account.
3). Most of the management comes from the US, they are not aware of the full potential of other markets: Europe, Asia, LATAM. 4). Poor communication between different departments. The environment is not transparent. Best practices are not shared, wins are not accredited, and processes are not established. 5). Moral harassment, humiliation and a case of racism from a manager, it’s something I came across, as well as my colleagues. People who left for other companies said it took time to build confidence after Mistplay. HR is not helpful and you are afraid to speak up. 6). Management speaks unpleasantly behind other colleagues and top management their backs. I don’t know any person from an “old team” (before the investment) in the company who doesn’t look for another job. PS. I see a lot of positive reviews that appeared here lately… ALWAYS after 1 negative review, 2 or 3 positive ones are posted within a day...
ADVICE: Spend more time working on the work environment than correcting reviews here.
