Today I finally built up the courage to terminate my employment with this toxic company. After going from consistent full-time employment to having one shift in over two weeks, I was brought to tears when I attempted to explain the problem to HR and the 'new manager.' Not only were they unsympathetic to the fact that I will now struggle financially, but they also insisted that it was based on a 'rotation' and performance based system. I was an employee who did not have one late day, one write up, or one bad review. I believe that the primary issue actually lays with the owner. For an owner to allow his employees to be subjected to the consistent degradation of one's quality of life is both irresponsible and inhumane. Having worked there for over a year, I have been through sets of different management (GM's, Front and back of house, supervisors), even more sets of coworkers and many people I considered my friend. I stuck my neck out for this company and put everything I had into this job, and with one new set of management it all went to the wayside. Anyone attempting to find employment in the fine dining industry should avoid this place like the plague. It will not be the experience you are looking for. No matter how many shifts you pick up, times you food run at other locations, shifts you work as a hostess to cover, or hours you work during a pandemic, you will always just be an expendable number to Modern Steak.
