Toxic culture undermines positive aspects and low pay
Pros
Car parking, subsidised catering, some excellent people.
Cons
Systemic workplace bullying and extensive cliques. Company claims a non hierarchical structure with open movement for internal roles. Not all roles are advertised internally and are "given" to staff who are favoured rather than open applications. Some senior Working Life (HR) staff are guilty of bullying, they are supposed to be policing policies not using role to intimidate, humiliate and bully staff in front of colleagues. Pay is still very low, pay increases in recent years hasn't kept pace with inflation. No jobs advertised internally show pay scales for role (to maintain secrecy). Applicants are actively dissuaded from asking about pay although this would be a main factor in considering an internal move. Some departments get "bonus" or "enhanced" payments but, again, these aren't openly shared. Company claims to value mental health support but this is not backed up when staff approach management at times of stress/distress/bereavement.
