Hostile Environment and Immature Leadership

Pros

Office is located at Yonge and Eglinton

Cons

Senior leaders pit employees against each other to manufacture a false sense of competition and distrust. The company currently has no certified HR, so gossip and HR violations go unreported. You are not allowed to question leadership's decisions or you will be villainized in front of other employees. There is no salary transparency, so people (mostly women) repeatedly discovered that junior peers were paid more than them. New hires are not formally trained due to lack of staff bandwidth, so you either sink or swim. If you're looking for a job in tech, you know what benefits are typically offered. Mortgage Automator offers nothing beyond standard health insurance and asking for anything else will get you laughed out of leadership's office. Favoritism, bragging about personal wealth, bullying juniors in the lunch room, and gaslighting are common behaviors (you will often be told that you are "confusing" if they don't like what you're telling them). After getting acquired by a VC group in the US, leadership took the team on an insultingly bad retreat to Camp Muskoka to sleep in bunk beds. The C-suite has convinced themselves that they have an inner circle of trustworthy employees, so constructive feedback is disregarded. This is not a team. It's a "boy's club" ruling people by fear.

Pros

They offer free snack and the location is very accessible. The product has a lot of potential.

Cons

The owners/management are very unprofessional. There is an expectation that you should work outside of your work hours daily or you will be let go. The benefits package is very basic. Nothing is kept confidential. Example if you are dealing with a personal matter the entire office will be made aware. Staff are publicly reprimanded and yelled at, if management doesn't like you they will fire you without cause. Many key employees have left recently and have been publicly shamed. I would not recommend this work environment.

Pros

Can't think of any at the moment

Cons

This environment is not conducive to women’s success due to significant favoritism toward male employees. Many employees report feeling uncomfortable and constantly on edge, leading to anxiety and fear.Constructive feedback is often met with insults.Leadership resists adopting industry-standard technology frameworks, which is perplexing and counterproductive. The leadership team’s inexperience leads to poor organization and a negative workplace culture. There is a fundamental lack of understanding of modern workforce dynamics, possibly due to an inflated sense of superiority.Leadership exhibits a sense of entitlement, expecting employees to make them feel smart, comfortable, and heard, without reciprocating the same respect.
