Co-workers were great!

Pros

Co-workers were great. Full-time hours.

Cons

Severe micromanagement from founders. No benefits. Inconsistent policies. Employees aren't treated very well. No overtime pay but expected overtime hours. Founders have a lot of communication issues. No HR department. Founders lack leadership. Founders have unrealistic expectations; over promise under deliver. Founders lack time management skills. Feedback not encouraged unless it was from founders to the employee. Founders have selective hearing when it comes to constructive criticism. Founders act before considering the ramifications. Founders get in the way of employees doing the very jobs they were hired for.

Horrible Management

Pros

Consistent work and pay. Videos have deeply emotional stories and you can tell yourself you're making an impact on people's lives.

Cons

The brothers who run this company are horrendous managers who take zero personal responsibility for anything, and will force employees to do extra work, often during weekends or after work hours to make up for management's issues. Meetings that should take 5 minutes stretch on for 2 hours just so they can hear themselves talk. They require a meeting for every stage of the videos. You'll often be unable to get ahold of them for days, and then when they finally do respond it'll be for a massively overlong meeting where they'll freak out about some tiny issue that pushes things further and further behind. They have no respect for anyone's time but their own. Any time scheduled to meet with them you can be confident they will not show up to. They expect their workers to put in hours and hours of overtime, which would be fine if they seemed even remotely grateful, but they aren't. You will work yourself into exhaustion for them, and then they won't care that you did so at all. The brothers will go off on vacations in the middle of the week, throwing projects behind because they're no longer available to give the feedback they insist they must give in order to deliver the video. Meanwhile employees get 2 days off a year. Seriously. One of the most ridiculous things to see is when one of the brothers fails to remember his own opinions on things, and will get mad that other people don't have his page of notes in front of them so that he can remember his own thoughts on the subject. If you're a videographer, you'll be expected to do a 1 person shoot, with a cheap camcorder, often within extreme time constraints, and often where you'll have driven 6 hours to get to the location before starting a full shoot day, but if any of the footage is slightly dark, or if the subject gives a poor answer, the brothers will freak out at you for it. You'll be micromanaged and nitpicked to death for every tiny imperfection, but will never hear a positive word even if something is done well. It's not an environment that fosters any sort of positivity or growth. Stay away.

Potential Diminished by Indecisiveness and Poor Time Management

Pros

First of all, the coworkers I worked with were all friendly, and were very welcoming. No office drama or blatant office politics at all. It's very rare to find that in any workplace. The service itself is quite unique, and I never heard of another company that provides quality visual assets for litigation. There were occasional company gatherings and the founders were at least hip enough to throw things like barbeques, brew days, and game tournaments. Office was well maintained and cleaned, and everyone got their own cubicle space, so there was a sense of privacy. They weren't overly strict on punctuality; you can come in "around" a certain time, rather than on the dot. They were also flexible on arranging a specific time to come in if requested. They also offered a bonus program that rewards you for working well. Paychecks were consistent and on time.

Cons

My first gripe was when I first interviewed; they told me very last minute that I'd be starting off with a lower "introductory" salary, something they have neglected to mention in the job listing. A lot of reviews here seem to point out that the founders have micromanagement issues, but I honestly think it's more about their inability to manage time. They are constantly out of the office, and even when they are, they are constantly in lengthy meetings. I would often see people lining up outside of the founders' offices just to get feedback. And this would usually be towards the end of the day. Of course, by the time you even get any sort of feedback, it's likely they will turn it down. As for feedback, because the founders couldn't dedicate enough time to run through your work, the feedback was often inconsistent. They would ask you to do things one way, but the next hour they would change their minds completely. This would result in unpaid overtime, and late night phone calls and texts (and usually at hours where people are expected to go to bed). There were a few positions that only lasted a few weeks, or positions that would become vacant every month or so. Layoffs were very frequent.
