Pros

The people in the company are incredibly nice and welcoming. Additionally, most everyone seems genuinely concerned about doing a quality job for their clients. Upper management is generous in providing rewards and sales incentives to top performers.

Cons

After the initial warm welcome, people remain friendly and helpful but you learn very quickly to keep a very low profile. There is an extreme sense of paranoia in the office - the most benign question is responded to with darting eyes and a whisper of, "I'll tell you when we walk to our cars this afternoon.". The office environment is the height of micro-management ... definitely a high-volume outgoing telesales center complete with call metrics, call recordings, email reviews, and windows from the hallway looking into every office. Unfortunately none of those tools are ever used in the way of providing constructive guidance, even when direction is requested. Instead, they are used as a method of surveillance (which probably increases the level of paranoia in the office) and a method of elimination. There is a high degree of turnover among the staff. Mid-level management shows little interest in developing the staff; instead they seem to be more concerned with "CYA" and advancing their own careers, even if it requires dishonesty. As mentioned, if you are a top performer you are awarded many perks. However, if you are an average employee, you will not receive any guidance or direction to help make you (and them) more successful. The company promotes a culture of "sink or swim" and quickly "cuts it's losses" if someone is not producing the numbers that put them in the "top performers" group. The job was a classic "bait and switch" ... what was "sold" as: a fabulous opportunity with tremendous earning potential, within a "family" culture that truly cares about it's employees and their success, was actually the most oppressive job of my life. The critical success factors outlined in the interview process did not match up with reality.

First off, thank you for sharing your comments. We want to continue to improve everything and everyone within the company, so I appreciate you sharing that with us. As far as us being a "cult"... our Book Club (which I'm assuming you're referring to) was created for what it is. A way to help our employees have a better and more fulfilling life by PAYING our employees to read books (which I personally pay for as well) in order to help them have better relationships and learn how to manage their money better. Based on the evidence of the last 15 years... it's working. :0) I see you were in Sales with us... so please allow me to apologize for one very critical mistake I made (and it's all on me as the CEO). Though they certainly were not a "snake"... I kept a weak, non-performing leader for way too long because of my personal attachment to them. As a result, we hampered the chances for success of anyone in that leader's department during the last few years. We have since replaced that person and I am very thankful to report that the new leader has an amazing track record of 5 out of 6 new sales reps doing the job quite successfully... and you can easily find that out today merely by asking them. Again, I apologize for that happening during your time with us. I truly do. Considering we have been on INC Magazine's "Best Places to Work in America" List for TWO of the last three years... and there's no way for us to know HOW our employees answered their surveys... that says all we really NEED to know. We're doing pretty well. Our company has also been written up (in very positive ways) in THREE business books after their authors visited our company personally. Are we perfect? Certainly not! But we are always working to improve everything within our walls. Again, I am deeply sorry that your time with us was not beneficial to you. I pray you have found a great place to work today where your talents are a good fit. Thanks again, David Long, CEO

It's Not What It Looks Like

Pros

Money is good, most of the employees are fun to work with. Champions Trips and quarterly trips for employee of the month are outstanding.

Cons

No room for growth. You're pretty much stuck in whatever position they hire you in. Very few opportunities. The Company needs a real HR Department. There is far too much gossip and rumors from the top of the company down. The CEO requires all employees to attend a mandatory book club that he treats as his personal soapbox, constantly going off topic to bash the government, President Obama, and share his personal views on religion, politics, etc. Its an extremely uncomfortable thing to sit through. Just because you're paid by the company to sit there, doesn't give the CEO the right to go off an his weird tangents. Be prepared to be offended.

Thank you very much for this feedback. In the past few years we've made significant improvements in workplace culture through the implementation of employee engagement surveys and feedback processes. We're always looking to improve even more, and suggestions like this give us direction.
