Pros

The systems for selling were fine, providing a laptop and a salesforce account. Most of the time you're given what you need to be able to pick up the phone and book demos and trials. Management do clearly want to help you succeed in the role, because for this company getting paying customers in the front door is the most important task. Marketing is engaged and keen to produce content for promoting the product and drive leads. The market is receptive to the product! I've never had so much success when cold calling B2B leads! They all seem to dislike or hate the 2 incumbent competitors and are keen on any innovation in that space.

Cons

The product doesn't do anything as good as the incumbent competition. It barely does anything at all. It looks great in a slide deck and demo, but that's under perfect controlled circumstances. The product is unsellable. If any prospective client trials the product they will quickly discover the same. The product has been built to tick boxes on a feature list. There has obviously been no actual Product Manager ensuring that all the pieces and features actually fit together and flow in a good user experience. The development roadmap appears to be anything but delivering a MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT. It feels more like a 'proof of concept' or 'technical demo' than an actual product. Sales roles are compensated at a non-negotiable $75k p.a. and you must understand that there will be no commission. Of course they say that you can earn commission, and it may even feel like you will make a commission when you're talking to prospects and they're signing up for trials. But they won't sign and you won't get a commission. I'm not saying don't work there, because it's fine otherwise. Just expect that there will be pressure to sell an unsellable product and you won't make more than the base salary until they improve the product.
