Pros
Neami do fantastic work, particularly with their Head to Health program. Consumer feedback is consistently positive, and the service fills a significant gap in the needs of the community. There are also significant opportunities for professional development, and in my experience, career progression. Staff on the ground genuinely care about the work, rather than just being there for a paycheck.
Cons
Neami has a poor history of nepotism and favouritism with regard to employing staff to leadership and senior management positions who are either underqualified or who are a poor fit for the role. This often resulted in tasks and responsibilities being left to other, more capable employees who were already being underpaid, or were already filling multiple roles within the organisation. This would also lead to a lot of in-group out-group toxicity. While this was not always the case (some members of leadership and senior management were fantastic fits and extremely capable), the exceptions to this were often the aforementioned employees who were overworked and overlooked. Neami has a poor grievance resolution and employee retention history. There is a significant turnover rate, which is the direct result of poorly fitting members of management, which has been articulated but never resolved. Employees are always left to take on more responsibilities than is reasonable, while rarely receiving any financial incentives or any support.
