Pros

Technical solutions are interesting and you are given autonomy to derive solutions. Location of the office is relatively central and close to transport links.

Cons

This won't be advertised, but the company went through a massive overhaul of the engineering department in early 2022. The reason being was decisions made by management & HR came to light and said decisions were not only disrespectful to the existing staff, but they way it was communicated was flippant, at best. All but 2 people in the senior management team for the engineering department left, and only 2 developers remained. The solution (and part of the reason for the mass departure) was mass hiring of what felt like anyone whom had ever touched a keyboard. Moreover in 90% of scenarios the people interviewing the applicants (who were also usually of higher seniority than the position the applicant was applying for) were asking for and being granted a higher wage. Meanwhile when asked, HR would return the tired rhetoric of "constantly evaluating market wages" and proceeding to pay 20% lower than them for any existing employee. The solution? The manager at the time changed the entire interview process and removed any technical tasks involved in the process in place of a conversation about the history of the applicant. The job listings were also changing to ask for languages that weren't remotely close to what was being used, just to increase the number of interviews being held. All of this was occurring as more and more tight deadlines were being handed to the engineering team from signed contracts with little to no technical due diligence, or even the basic information being passed on to the engineering team. The advent of the change in the company direction in late 2021 through to 2022 transformed the company from a very rewarding and interesting place to work, into just another workplace that treats the engineering employees one step above sweatshop workers.

We are sorry that your experience at Netacea was not a great one. We always try to learn from everyone’s Netacea experience, both good and bad. The technical team is central to Netacea's success and we have always worked to foster a culture of empowering and enabling that team to drive innovation. We are sorry you felt disconnected from that during the last part of your time with us. 2021 was a challenging time for us as a company. I am glad to say that thanks to the hard work of the team, both new and old, we have grown well and are making great progress. The development team is now 3 times the 2021 size. We will take your comments seriously and, as always, strive to be better.
