Pros

Pretty good education opportunities (Unfortunately all of them are mandatory and often during inconvenient times), wide variety of experiences to be had (many EB practices used, adults, children, adolescents, etc), other front line staff are generally trustworthy and hardworking individuals.

Cons

Upper management never available or present, middle management totally unwilling to take any sort of feedback or listen to their employees, if you disagree with management staff you are likely risking your job or at least will be made very miserable for the rest of the time you remain there, manipulation tactics employed the majority of the time so that management can suck as much out of you as possible, employees are seen more as objects to be used rather than people to invest in, pay the deplorable considering the number of hours required, often having to work overtime without any overtime pay or even acknowledgement, already earned PTO is denied if you are not meeting the very difficult to meet productivity standards, or if your supervisor forgets you asked off, any number of reasons, unless you are a favorite of the administrative staff it is unlikely you will ever receive any sort of a raise, productivity bonuses can be withheld for any reason they see fit and often it is for tiny little things employees literally haven't had the time to do because they are busy working 5-10 hours overtime just to keep up, the employees that management like to put on a pedestal are too busy engaging in office affairs and trading gossip to actually inspire or help anyone, there is enough money to build a fancy new building but not enough money to give a pay raise to an employee after they have literally sacrificed a year of their life to this company, the CEO has literally no relationship with the employees who actually make the money that this company thrives off of. At best it can be considered a sweat shop. Oh yeah, and you might be terminated illegally if you have to have an emergency C-section and your doctor recommends you to take off two extra weeks, management will tell you that your doctors note serves as your resignation letter when you aren't willing to take their "recommendation" to get a second opinion by a strange doctor that recants the doctor who actually did your c-section's opinion. The way management treats their employees at the adult location is reminiscent of an abuser/victim relationship, employees are too scared to say anything and everyone has to whisper behind closed doors to even talk about the weather much less communicate about the upper management politics and ways to survive the experience.

Northcare Response

We regret your negative outlook on NorthCare and acknowledge your frustration. Your choice to continue working at NorthCare suggests that you recognize its strengths and hopefully your willingness to contribute to NorthCare’s mission. You mentioned multiple concerns regarding NorthCare and we would like to take an opportunity here to briefly address some of them. Your review suggested some negative personal experiences as well as potential colleagues/previous colleagues’ experiences. We sincerely respect the privacy of all staff and would not disclose any information, here or otherwise, that may identify staff. That said, we want to clarify some policies and practices that appear to be misunderstood. Overtime. Full-time staff are expected to work 40 hours/week and supervisors are expected to assist staff with accomplishing this. We understand that sometimes more than 40 hours/week may be necessary for performing required duties. Staff in non-exempt classified positions are paid overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 hours / week. Staff in exempt classified positions are paid a salary regardless of actual hours worked, and are not eligible, by law, for overtime pay. Leave Benefits. NorthCare is proud of its generous leave benefits. All employees are informed about NorthCare’s leave policies in Orientation and staff review these policies annually. Although not required to provide any paid leave, NorthCare offers over five (5) different types of paid leave to full-time staff. These include, but are not limited to: Paid Time Off (PTO), Extended Illness Leave (EIL), Floating Holidays, Agency Leave and Bereavement Leave. As you know, PTO and EIL start accruing the first of the month following 30 days of employment. PTO accrues at 8 hours/month and increases to 10 hrs/month after 1 year of employment, 12 hrs/month after 2 years, 14 hrs/month after 3 years and 16hrs/month after 7 years. NorthCare encourages staff to use PTO and offers PTO payout opportunities for staff who request payout of unused leave. NorthCare administers leave benefits consistent with its policies and applicable laws. In addition to paid leave, employees may be eligible for unpaid leave. Some types of unpaid leave are mandated by law, including FMLA leave (Family Medical Leave Act) which is available to employees who have worked 12 months and 1250 hours. NorthCare complies with all laws related to federally protected leave. Sometimes employees may request leave, but they have exhausted all paid leave (PTO, EIL, etc.) and the leave they are requesting is not protected (for example, the employee has not worked 12 months and 1250 hours). In those instances, an employee may request up to two (2) weeks of Leave Without Pay (LWOP). NorthCare is not required to offer an employee time off without pay unless that time off is required by local, state or federal laws/regulations. Bonuses / Raises. NorthCare’s benefits include opportunities for bonuses and raises. Employees exceeding client contact expectations are eligible for monthly bonuses. Service providers working in excess of 40 hours / week would presumably be performing additional client contact services and as such should be eligible for bonuses. Additionally, merit bonuses may be awarded for recognized exceptional performance. Longevity bonuses based upon years of services have also been generously awarded to staff the last several years. In 2016 already, 159 different employees have received some type of bonus. Hopefully you were one of these. We recognize this is not the preferred medium for addressing employee concerns and encourage you to communicate directly with your supervisor, Director, Human Resources or any member of the leadership team who may be able to assist you further.

Pros

Provided laptop. Privides good educational training. Says you can flex your 40 hr week but when you do you get questioned and told well only at the companies request not the families. The staff that do work there all are full of excellent skills and with the appropriate leadership would stay a long time. Offers overtime

Cons

Offers overtime but doesn't always grant it. Quantity of cases over quality of case management. No PO access for 6 months, that's an extremely long time when you are suppose to be an agency that values the family- oh we value the family but you can't take 1 day off before 6 months unless oh wait you don't get paid for it. That's a quick way to get staff to burn out quick!

Pros

You will get great benefits and training opportunities. The front line staff are very hard working. There is variety in the client population.

Cons

The agency is obsessed with money and numbers at the expense of client and employee care. The agency only cares about productivity and will not reward staff for other merits. The agency has inexperienced middle management with upper management is entirely unavailable. Lots of manipulation and coercion was used with employees during my tenure. They don't allow former employees to have references and you can't use PTO for 6 months following your start date!
