Pros

Exposure, independence, you get to interview a lot of interesting people in the community

Cons

Unpaid, minimal guidance, no one in the office talks to each other/goes out to lunch together/does anything outside of work together. You could walk in and not speak to anyone all day and it wouldn't be weird.

Love my job duties, hate the job environment

Pros

My coworkers and direct supervisor were a pleasure to work with, great sense of teamwork and I was able to collaborate with different departments pretty easily.

Cons

The pay is terrible; I get paid significantly below market value for my job. Upper management is a nightmare, and their way of motivating employees is by putting them down. Hours are not flexible, very little amount of vacation time, no benefits, and we often have to work over 40 hours a week.

Pros

The magazine is a good product and has relevant editorial. The website has been redesigned and is now mobile friendly.

Cons

There is very high turnover in the advertising sales and marketing departments among newer employees in this small company. There is a management culture of command and control, rule by fear and intimidation and bullying versus being supportive and collaborative. The workday starts at 8am and it is important to clock in each day and not schedule a sales call close to home before coming into the office. They would rather you drive back and forth in the middle of the day which can be inefficient. There are a lot of advertising clients that are house accounts. Not a good culture or work environment. The health benefits are mediocre and there is no 401K.
