Pros

Meeting the clients and really making a difference to their lives. The other carers (if you are lucky enough to meet them) seem nice.

Cons

-The office staff, rude & unapproachable and unsupportive, sometimes deliberately seem to go out of their way to make things difficult. -You only get paid inside clients houses so expect to work double the number of hours for those you'll actually get paid for. That £10.50 an hour becomes just £5.25 an hour with a 30min visit and 15 mins travelling time either side -If you leave within a year they deduct £100 of your final pay for 'training', even tho your training was an unpaid week if your time. -they take on new clients despite not having enough staff to cover the visits they already have & expect current staff to work extra, sometimes 7am til 9pm without a break (unless you count driving around with impossible travelling times as a break) -the change the rota ALL the time, which annoys the clients' who constantly moan about the office staff to the carers - they are unsympathetic towards your personal problems, even if a relative dies, they might not grant time off if they are short-staffed or if the relative isn't immediate (in-laws don't count apparently!) -they contradict everything they promise in training, you never get any advanced info before visiting a new client, you are simply told to 'read the care notes' when you arrive, which doesn't install confidence in a client and wastes some of the previous half hour needed for care. - despite claiming to be a 'team' none of the carers meet each other unless you happen to do a double visit together. You don't get given phone numbers of other carers unless you meet them yourself & think to swap numbers. Up until that point, everything runs through the office. So if you've over run on your last visit meaning you're running late for the next, there's no way of phoning the other carer. If you ask the office to phone the client on your behalf, more often than not they don't bother, so you arrive late & they had no idea why. -they say they pay petrol costs but not to/from work as this counts as a commute and not starting after a gap. So you might drive 10-15 miles from your home to start/finish (unpaid) then ½ - 1 mile between clients, then have a gap so you drive home (10-15 miles) rather than sit in your car (unpaid) then start again 10-15 miles away (commute, unpaid) 1 or 2 miles between clients then finish 10-15 miles away. So in a day you've driven say 70 miles. 60 were unpaid and you've got £3 for the 10 miles in between clients.
