Can get a bit repetitive over time

Very often there is little to no certainty of contract renewal. Most contracts are short-term (one year or less), which creates significant uncertainty for expats (especially if your visa depends on it), and fosters negative and strong competition among colleagues. Much depends on how your manager and team handle the situation, but contracts may simply not be renewed—often without any formal notice period.
