Pros

Decent Salary, Semi-decent benefits, people are very courteous on the surface. The rank and file members are mostly good, hard working, well-intentioned people. Leaders appear to care about the members and running an effective organization. Strong sentiment towards worker safety.

Cons

Misogynistic culture. Like stepping back in time to 1975. Female professionals are treated like second class citizens, expected to perform "feminine" tasks like taking notes in meetings, getting food or cleaning up, while male counterparts are not. Double standard of behavior for men and women. The men (including middle and senior leaders) get away with anything, including behaviors that could be considered harassment and discrimination. Women who push back on this chauvinism are labeled as troublemakers or "difficult" and then retaliated against and relegated to the back seat. HR is dysfunctional and ineffective.

Pros

Great benefits package and pay. Use to be a great place to work. All the pros to the job have either retired or quit or got laid off due to outsourcing.

Cons

Where do I start. The company is not the same company I went to work for. They use to stand for the everyday worker, but now it's about outsourcing. HR can NOT be trusted and they lie to staff and causing a hostile work environment. I have seen people that had 30 years there get fired and escorted out. It seems like every few months another department is getting outsourced. For example they outsourced the entire security department last year except a few "good ol' boys". The management sent out a mass email to all of security to attend a mandatory training class in the middle of the week. When all of the 50 + security staff from around the state arrived they were greeted by HR personal and a buffet style breakfast and friendly faces. It was a total set up and a lie that was put together by HR and management. As soon as everyone was seated they announced that there is no mandatory training class and that everyone was being outsourced to a security company and it would take effect in 11 working days. HR advised them they would get a severance package thinking that would make it better. So they had 11 working days to get any insurance stuff taken care of and find a new job. The new security company said they would rehire everyone, but wouldn't even tell them what they would be making until 2 days before they took over. Most guys were making $23-$30 an hour with full benefits and 4-5 weeks vacation as a full OG&E employee. The contract company now pays them $16-$18 an hour with no time off or benefits doing the same job. It was sad seeing that happen to so many hard working people that loved their job and most had 10-30 years with the company. It wasn't like security was killing OG&Es budget cause it was one of the smaller departments. HR should have approached it different and treated them with respect. I don't know how any Vice President or CEO approved this tactic of lies to blind side them like they did. It was like feeding a death row inmate before they lead them to the death chamber. Simply sad and pathetic. But don't worry all the security managers have kept their high paid jobs. They should have fired the security upper management and kept the security officers cause that would have saved the company a lot more money with their big salaries.
