Bizarre gaslighting environment...go anywhere else

Pros

Some pretty cool and talented people!

Cons

The company has experienced incredible employee turnover, which is a huge red flag to start with. Weird invasions of privacy too – like company handle needed to be in IG bio, needed to have an "appropriate reason" to not attention optional virtual happy hours, called emergency meetings for employee intervention if they weren't acting "happy enough" during meetings. Upper management set unclear standards of excellence, and frequently contradicted one another in terms of expectations and goals. Teams were treated very different than others, with certain ones being praised and others being criticized during all hands meetings in front of the rest of the company. Not to mention – despite years of experience and skills in certain fields, upper management talked down to and criticized employees saying they didn't know enough or weren't experienced enough to make certain decisions. Little room for experimentation, even less room for original ideas if they didn't instantly go viral. People were extremely overworked, and never "doing enough for the sake of the company." Despite large goals set by the upper management, none of the workers reaped any of the benefits – salaries were embarrassingly low and benefits were nonexistent for a while starting off.

Awful Place To Work

Pros

The only redeeming quality of Offbeat is its employees. It is truly a fun group of talented people. Although at this point, many of the cool and talented people have left for a wide range of justifiable reasons.

Cons

Working at Offbeat is an overall nightmare. To start, upper management is not short of unprepared and incompetent. The CEO constantly gloats about his accomplishments and the company's accomplishments, while people are getting laid off or quitting. In the past 6 months, about half the company has left, including some people that had been there from the beginning. The pay at Offbeat is comical based on industry standards. There were some great managers in different departments, but all of them have left. Additionally, upper management and HR are great at making all of these promises of what your career will look like at Offbeat, and they are simply just lying through their teeth. They work you to a pulp with zero recognition monetarily, or at a minimum, with growth within the company. Overall, just run if you are even in the position to accept a job here.

Pros

Getting to work with amazing, hilarious, talented teammates

Cons

Unfortunately, these amazing, hilarious, talented teammates are not treated as such by upper management. Working overtime is an expectation, not an option. Leadership preaches that they want their employees to have a healthy work-life balance. But when confronted with the issue of employees constantly working overtime, the CEO had this to say, “Working overtime is just part of working at a startup.” Working overtime and going far over above and beyond will get you nowhere. I kept telling myself, “Hard work always pays off.” Not at Offbeat. Hard work is rewarded with a heavier workload and zero bonuses. Bonuses would be super helpful given the bare-minimum salary employees earn. You’ll come in with a next-to-nothing offer with the promise that you’ll quickly earn more. Not true. You are expected to be overjoyed and kiss their feet for going from $45k to $50k. Yippee? Even the managers are wildly underpaid. The founders have been steering this ship in the wrong direction for the past 6 months. Multiple knowledgeable employees raised red flags to them just to be ignored. When the ship inevitably crashed into the oncoming glacier, the blame was placed on the employees. Multiple rounds of layoffs have proven that everyone is disposable in the founders’ eyes, even those who have been with the company from the start. Offbeat will gaslight you into thinking that you are asking for too much by requesting the bare minimum, work you to the bone, then kick you to the curb.
