- The purchasing position itself was mundane as it was highly transactional. Mainly generated POs, but this allowed me create projects for myself relating to data analysis.
- No clear career trajectory unless you pivot to another role. For instance, there is no buyer -> senior buyer -> category buyer progression that you would see in other industries. The company is rather small.
- The pay was a little below the market ($25 hourly)
- No option for Hybrid as it was an hourly position. I found that I could have worked from home the majority of the week since the position highly sedentary. It sometimes felt like I was being paid for time as opposed to work.
- No diversity. I'm pretty sure I was the only minority in the office, so at times I felt a little out of place. There is a tendancy for some employees to make comments that would be regarded as culturally insesitive, however never to the point where I felt discriminated.
- Given the current political climate, the market is not favorable to US based manufacturers so I was sometimes wary of layoffs. For the first quarter, the company exprienced a layoff of around 30 people, mainly in sales and operational roles.
- It's a stable industry but Oliver Inc itself may not be stable
- The culture is not clear. I know what service we provided, but our values weren't clear. They want to be customer centric, help employees, provide exceptional services, but the "how" was never really embedded into team meetings.
I only worked here for 7 months so please take this into consideration. It's very possible as my position evolved, more doors would have opened. Generally however, this was my experience.
