Pros

-Very rewarding job if you like helping others and enjoy promoting literacy -Great staff and co-workers -For a public library, the pay is very fair

Cons

-Some of the managers have poor people skills and management skills. Even after complaining about management they aren't fired due to the union -Weird hours, working evenings and weekends frequently -You have to employ de-escalation tactics frequently with patrons as they can turn aggressive or even violent -Limited upward mobility or full-time opportunities -The culture has changed a lot in the past couple of years in a negative way. There is a lot of distrust with upper management

Pros

Staff is comprehensively dedicated to service objectives and roles as public servants.

Cons

Very few, if any, and the only ones I can think of I largely attribute to regional culture differences. I'm not from the Mid-West so acclimating to the culture with this position being my first job after I moved, was largely the reason's for any challenging experiences; none of them really had to to with the library.
