Pros

Solid product, does what it sets out to do. Some good people on the team.

Cons

11 year old start up that can’t grow because the CEO won’t let it. Won’t listen to customer feedback on needed product features. Still insists on working on writing code himself instead of letting the team work on new features. He doesn’t trust people to do the job they’re hired to do.

While we are disappointed to see a 1 out of 5-star rating from a former employee, we understand that not every experience will be perfect. However, we would like to address some of the concerns mentioned in your review. We take pride in hiring exceptionally talented individuals, not just "some good" people. We believe that our team is the backbone of our company, and even employees who have moved on to other opportunities have left their mark on our journey. Regarding your observation about my involvement in writing code, I'd like to set the record straight: I have not contributed any production code since 2013. If you were a part of our team, you could easily verify this by checking GitHub for my last commit. Since that time, our highly skilled development team has taken the reins, successfully creating and implementing every new feature. My lifelong passion for software development began at the age of 8 when my mother enrolled me in a community college programming class for the Apple II. While this passion remains strong, my role as CEO has evolved to focus on guiding and supporting our talented team. Admittedly, I still enjoy dabbling in code as a way to stay connected to my roots – after all, who doesn't appreciate revisiting cherished childhood interests that have shaped their career and passions? We are committed to our customers' success and allocate over 30% of our development capacity to addressing their needs and incorporating their feedback. This demonstrates our dedication to delivering a top-notch product and experience. I do appreciate you recognizing that we have a "Solid Product", 100% on the same page. It’s “Solid” because we listen to feedback. Regarding our approach to employee empowerment, we believe in "trust but verify." This allows us to maintain a balance between empowering our team members to take ownership of their work and ensuring the highest quality of output. We see this as a key ingredient to fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Great Company, Poor Leadership

Pros

Ombud has unlimited PTO, 100% paid health benefits, great people.

Cons

Pay scale is low. Turnover is extreme at Ombud. No trust from leadership, especially Thad. He needs to control everything.

Hi Anonymous Former Ombud Employee, I appreciate you taking the time to share with the Glassdoor Community your 3 out of 5 Ombuddy Experience. Honestly, we wished that both of us came away with a 5 Star Experience. We let you down with poor leadership. I am sorry for the lapse in my duties. You are right, we do have great people, we pay 100% of our employees’ healthcare and we have unlimited PTO. Nobody really takes unlimited, but you are free to take time when you need it and we do offer 15+ paid holidays. There are a lot of other cool benefits, but you got the big ones. A few things I always like to share, in addition to the benefits you mentioned: we are passionate about our people, our clients, and our platform. We go to great lengths to offer a solution and experience that delivers for our market. We are human and we are passionate about the challenges we are working on. While we would like to pay ridiculous salaries and provide benefits found at MAANG-esque companies (I asked our board to give away BAYC NFTs for all New Hires), we just simply can't because of the principles of economics and the lessons taught from people like Benjamin Graham. We strive to keep our salaries competitive to our market and companies sized similar to Ombud. Even with the Great Resignation, we have grown consecutively our revenue year-over-year and our leadership still sees a bright future ahead. We hope you have found a Five Star Experience in your new role and company. Thank you for being a part of Ombud.
