Pros

They are located downtown and you can walk to restaurants and most places are pretty quick to get around. They also have pretty good beer on tap.

Cons

I didn't realize until I started that a couple people had already come and gone from Ombud. I wish there had been a review when I accepted a position. Every day is a challenge when you come to work here. The hours are long and it is really awkward to be in the office. Nobody says more than a couple words all day, unless it is over the phone. The CEO will use phrases like building a lifestyle and take care of the business and it will take care of you. These are all negotiating tactics and when you interview, they will probably say that there are multiple people and they narrowed it down to you and someone else. This is a tactic, they hired one person when I was there and told her there was someone else, I never saw them interview another sole. The CEO is what I would consider equivalent to a tuxedo wearing used car salesman. Just because he comes off polished, don't trust him! Get everything in writing! EVERYTHING! Also, he basis his entire sales tactic on a book called Value Forward Selling. It's like 2 bucks to buy and if you read it before an interview, he will probably think you are a genius. Warning! Don't use the solo cups on the Kegerator, they are apparently expensive.

Pros

* flex PTO - there's a lot of trust at the company for everyone to take the time off that they need. * Everyone at Ombud is genuinely a happy/good person. You can have a real conversation with anyone at the company. * smart and approachable engineering team * Everyone at Ombud has great taste in music!

Cons

* 10 year "start-up" culture. Ombud is not a start up anymore but sure feels like it. * The CEO needs to let go of things. Thad will spend a lot of time helping develop a feature POC when he should be running a company. * Turnover has been rough. The solid team that once was Ombud have all left. * Ombud is struggling to hire and I don't see that changing.

Pros

Solid product, does what it sets out to do. Some good people on the team.

Cons

11 year old start up that can’t grow because the CEO won’t let it. Won’t listen to customer feedback on needed product features. Still insists on working on writing code himself instead of letting the team work on new features. He doesn’t trust people to do the job they’re hired to do.

Dear Anonymous Glassdoor Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about our company on Glassdoor. We appreciate all feedback, as it helps us to continue growing and improving. We're pleased to hear that you recognized the solid product and the great people on our team. While we are disappointed to see a 1 out of 5-star rating from a former employee, we understand that not every experience will be perfect. However, we would like to address some of the concerns mentioned in your review. We take pride in hiring exceptionally talented individuals, not just "some good" people. We believe that our team is the backbone of our company, and even employees who have moved on to other opportunities have left their mark on our journey. Regarding your observation about my involvement in writing code, I'd like to set the record straight: I have not contributed any production code since 2013. If you were a part of our team, you could easily verify this by checking GitHub for my last commit. Since that time, our highly skilled development team has taken the reins, successfully creating and implementing every new feature. My lifelong passion for software development began at the age of 8 when my mother enrolled me in a community college programming class for the Apple II. While this passion remains strong, my role as CEO has evolved to focus on guiding and supporting our talented team. Admittedly, I still enjoy dabbling in code as a way to stay connected to my roots – after all, who doesn't appreciate revisiting cherished childhood interests that have shaped their career and passions? We are committed to our customers' success and allocate over 30% of our development capacity to addressing their needs and incorporating their feedback. This demonstrates our dedication to delivering a top-notch product and experience. I do appreciate you recognizing that we have a "Solid Product", 100% on the same page. It’s “Solid” because we listen to feedback. Regarding our approach to employee empowerment, we believe in "trust but verify." This allows us to maintain a balance between empowering our team members to take ownership of their work and ensuring the highest quality of output. We see this as a key ingredient to fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. We are sorry to hear that your experience at our company did not meet your expectations, we remain committed to continuous improvement and growth. Thanks again for your feedback. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
