    Pros

    The Product: You choose a marketing piece/consignment piece under a certain price threshold per position to be your free daily wearer. Omega pieces in general represent a phenomenal value in the watchmaking world. Salary Negotiation: If you can sell your experience properly, you can demand a great salary. (“Problem child” stores will offer big bucks to sign on the dotted line.)

    Cons

    Management: I’ll begin with the relatively innocuous stuff and work my way towards the truly “dear god, why” stuff. Middle Management was both fond of over sharing (sexual history, marital updates, etc.) and being heavily involved in employees’ personal lives. Middle Management had no common sense when it came to fraternizing with the employees who indulged and complimented the most, including going to the movies... and going to rap concerts off the clock with said employees. Middle Management would often show up to work hungover, sometimes after the aforementioned concerts and the requisite after-concert bar crawl till 4am with employees. After showing up to work hungover, Middle Management would then leave early due to nausea, at times necessitating another employee to work a last-minute double shift. Middle Management would often “clock in” and then promptly leave the boutique to go shopping at other retailers in the mall for up to 2 hours. Middle Management on at least one well documented occasion authorized the theft of $100+ in watch links from one client’s watch in the safe and sold them to another client and then blamed the missing links on the repair center’s neglect when speaking to the client stolen from. Middle Management was openly prejudiced to guard staff who were often of Nigerian descent to the point that they confided in other staff members about the issue. In sum total: A certain individual in particular was literally the most hilariously terrible supervisor I’ve ever seen, and I’m including fast food gigs from when I was a kid. Upper executive leadership for its part was completely oblivious to the abuses going on in the boutique and seemingly didn’t particularly care, until legal action was taken by a former employee. Upper leadership was also either unaware or deliberately misinformed about the qualifications of the staff on the floor including: whether or not individuals could actually close a sale consistently when they are, indeed, salespeople or if they had even basic technical knowledge of timepieces so that other staff didn’t have to pick up the slack for those who can’t size watch bracelets or offer service advise.

    Advice to Management

    Wake up. You will never retain quality employees if you continue to have no oversight over what is happening in your boutiques. As I type this now, Omega’s U.S network is overflowing with job opportunities at both the corporate and boutique level due to staff turnover, particularly compared to other Swiss luxury watch brands with a North American presence. Root out the “bad apples” and reward those who bring out the... best rather than the worst in the people around them. It’s really not difficult. Also, easy on the “fire” trigger. I’ve never seen a Swiss company so comfortable with the “termination without cause” clause. If you can’t confirm allegations of policy violation against an employee and there’s no disciplinary paper trail whatsoever for said employee, you should probably question why a manager is dead set on terminating an employee who’s never reportedly been an issue out of the blue, as common sense says it is probably to settle personal scores, not for business reasons.

    Pros

    Coworkers were mostly easy to get along with, tons of foot traffic easy to make connections with potential clients. Very large, expansive space.

    Cons

    Temperamental upper management, caters mainly to Mandarin clients. No clear direction of where the store is heading. Missed the forecast or lied entirely about being worth $25M in sales, more like $12-$15M at best.

    Advice to Management

    Find a better way to manage your sales staff, even though this is an at-will state, there is need to be terminated without any prior notice and for absolutely no reason.

    Pros

    Smart TV in break room, security guards and cleaning crew are cool.

    Cons

    Mid & upper-level mgmt are complete and total failures. No vision or SOP's. Built on quid-pro-quo relationships. Bait & switch job roles; They will sell you a dream and render you a nightmare to work in (similar to its products). This is the last place a watchmaker should go to work. Mgmt will just have you juggle endless quick services, QC's and diagnostics until kingdom come, while no watchmaking ever gets done.

    Advice to Management

    Look at a career change or departmental direction change (won't likely happen) because you a destroying the hopes of current and future watchmakers, coming straight from school when it is most important for them to learn fundamentals.
