Pros

Everyone at One Love is really genuine and will offer a lot of support in your role and will follow through on it. It starts to feel like a family in a very short period of time. The work can be very challenging, but there is constant emphasis on growth professionally and as an organization. In working here, you will gain experience in departments that you haven't before, even if you're already pretty experienced in the nonprofit world. Volunteers are great, working with students is rewarding, and you feel like you're making a direct, tangible difference in people's lives. Benefits are great, and they're flexible with sick days.

Cons

Working in a nonprofit always means going above and beyond, but at One Love, it's like having five jobs at once. Evenings and weekends are often taken up by work, and in the busy seasons, it's very long days. Also, be prepared for everyone you meet outside of work to tell you about their experiences and relationships. It can be draining to talk about relationship violence constantly. If you are entry level, there's not a lot of room for promotion, and job descriptions are vague and broad so nobody really knows what anyone else is working on. Internal communication could be better.

Pros

Such an amazing cause and amazing community of people. Although it is a lot of work, the cause and the support of the staff and management makes it all worth while.

Cons

Internal communication is something that needs to improve. There is a bit of disconnect from the top down on what is needed and can be frustrating at times. There is not a lot of growth for upward mobility.

Atrocious place to work

Pros

The educational product was outstanding and the team members were driven to make change.

Cons

Sharon Love and family (the founders of the organization) struggle from founder's syndrome at their core. They hired a former lacrosse coach to run a multi-million dollar organization with ZERO nonprofit experience. This negligence led to multiple rounds of layoffs which left the organization with LESS THAN 8 employees (down from over 60 2+ years ago) and in a massive deficit. Misusing charitable dollars.
