Pros
Working in animal welfare is fulfilling work. You can work alongside compassionate people helping animals in need. You’ll see families adopt their new pets and share that sense of joy with a community. This organization draws you in with colorful marketing and a salary slightly higher than others, but that’s where the pros end. It’s hard work, emotionally and physically, so these pros are not enough to sustain anyone.
Cons
I’ve never experienced such a lack of communication or leadership within a workplace. Expectations are set that are never expressed. Projects will be assigned without any guidance or feedback. Staff are expected to go above and beyond without reward or even acknowledgment. Other similar organizations might pay a little less, but they at least treat their people with respect. I regret working here and putting so much time and effort into a place that did not care about me.
