Pros

Good culture, very flat. Everyone knows each other very well. It's easy to talk top level management as they are always around for small discussion. You will learn a lot here. In terms of investment, and fund management related role (portfolio management, operation, compliance, IT).

Cons

Very low salary structure. This company is an insult to the investment industry in general. They pay way below market average for entry level staff, regardless of departments. I believe the same goes for senior staff. There is even staff who has not had any promotion despite working there for 5 years. The management should keep their old job working with banks instead of running the company. They don't appreciate talent. The can't foresee the impact of their action to the company in the long run. High turnover rate causing high turnover cost, time spent training new talents wasted as newcomers tend to leave within 2-3 years etc. All they think about is how to cut cost (as most of the top management are shareholders of the company) Expect for a 200-300 increment in addition to the low salary. It possible to not getting more than 3500 after working there for 2 years. Do not expect much for bonus as well, 1-2 months is the average bonus for people who worked more than 2 years. If you are newcomers, please expect less than 1 month worth bonus. If you are there to learn, that's good. Take as many knowledge as possible, and then jump elsewhere.

Mediocre Try-Hard Company

Pros

1. People are generally friendly. You'll need to make a little bit of effort in interactions if you're new but that's human nature. 2. Depending on the department/position, OT is not the norm. At most, people would stay back 1.5 hours after official working hours. 3. Free lunch once a month. 4. Office at a strategic location for trains. 5. Small teams lets high performers get noticed. 6. Flat hierarchy structure means higher visibility of how holistic the roles within the department are.

Cons

1. The senior leadership seems to meddle too much into the day-to-day operations of the company. 2. If you're not part of a profit driver department/division, be prepared to have your annual bonus or salary low-balled. 3. Traditional and not open minded to modern approaches/trends of work. 4. Their so-called benefits are the bare minimum in reference to Employment Act. 5. Insanely low salary band for the industry due to the small company size. 6. Low transparency in the way annual bonus is calculated as they are never declared/announced. 7. Lack of knowledge management practices. 8. Strong blaming culture when mistakes are made. 9. Outdated recruitment practices (Requests of payslips before the 1st interview, lengthy application forms and required documents, compulsory in-person interviews). 10. Flat hierarchy structure means lesser chances for upward career opportunities. 11. Doing good work is not enough. You'll need to be loud and stand out if you want your hard work to get recognised.
