Mission and care are great while culture is toxic
Pros
1. Oula's mission to improve the birthing experience for pregnant individuals through holistic care is amazing. 2. The actual care that Oula clinicians deliver to patients is unmatched and exceptional. 3. The staff including both clinicians and non clinicians is amazing. Some of the most genuine and compassionate people you will ever meet that really are dedicated to the maternal care space. So smart, skilled, and down to earth. 4. The company itself is currently in a very exciting time given it is still really young and there is a lot of impactful work to be done. 5. Flexibility to work from home or from the Oula coworking space or one of the physical clinic locations.
Cons
1. The company culture is toxic: micro aggressions are experienced and present in the workplace, lack of autonomy in work, micromanagement is very common, very white leadership team that turns a blind eye to toxic behaviors even when it is that same white leadership team exhibiting those toxic behaviors. 2. Sharing feedback does not go well at this company. Often met with resistance and forms of retaliation to silence you. Most employees do not share difficult cultural feedback because it is not received well and employees have a fear of leadership retaliating against them. 3. No career progression and growth opportunities exist or are prioritized. If you are white and fit into the mold that the white leadership team fits into, then you will automatically be favorited and opportunities to grow will be more present. 4. No bonuses or salary raises consistently exist at this company. You could work there for over 1 or 2 years and never get an increase to your salary or a bonus. 5. Lack of vision: the leadership team has a serious lack of vision of where Oula is going in the future. Truly just seems like they are trying to throw any ideas out that they could cling to. No true vision or north star that is ultimately guiding them.
