The actual time spent teaching in the classroom is the best part of the job. You get to connect with amazing students, teach interesting projects, and make an impact.
Cons
The administrative team can be difficult to work with. If you are good at your job, you are rewarded with double the workload for the same pay and hours and penalized when you try to set healthy work-life boundaries.
Everyone was very kind. The people were fun and the work was fun. I learned a lot and was able to get 1:1 instruction on specific things I was interested in. I felt like the work I did was meaningful.
Cons
It seemed like most positions were through Americorps or similar programs so people come and go, it was not a con for me but it could be for someone else. Americorps, unafiliated to this organization, is a government program, and as a government program can be really terrible.
