"You're not good at your job because you are a woman."--Peter Mayer

Pros

The staff at Overlook are overworked and under-appreciated, but against all odds, they manage to put out an astounding amount of quality books. My former colleagues were some of the brightest, most talented, funniest, and patient people. If I could be thankful for anything from this hellish experience, it would be that I had the opportunity to befriend them.

Cons

In short, the management at Overlook is ruining the company one delayed meeting, one re-scheduled pub date, and one enraged author at a time. The publisher refuses to step down from his position because his inflated ego has convinced him the company can't stand on its own. What he doesn't understand is that he is the source of nearly all the company's problems.

Pros

The office is in a good location. Good restaurants and bars nearby. If you enjoy being verbally abused, this is a great place to work.

Cons

too many to list. Essentially the employees bond through an almost morbid kind of gallows humor. It's the onby defense to cope with the constant browbeating.

Pros

Can learn more about publishing than at a big house, publishes some good books

Cons

It is run by someone who is unstable, unpredictable, and volatile -- I would highly recommend staying away
