Unsupportive environment

Pros

Mission and people who care about kids.

Cons

Poor attitudes are the norm here, trickling down from executive leadership. I was left unsupported with no one to report to and when I reached out for help I was told in direct quotes, “that’s not my job”. I’ve never cried in the workplace until I worked here. You’d think for a pediatric cancer organization, there would be more gratitude and appreciation for others, as well as the realization that nothing is the end of the world (there are kids who have their childhood cut short and people here are visibly upset about a random car parked in their parking spot—a minor inconvenience!) Flexibility is not honored or appreciated. Luckily, all the smart, honest, hardworking people here have been finding employment elsewhere.

It's all about appearance and ego

Pros

They have an unlimited vacation and sick leave policy. You don't bring work home with you--when you leave for the day, you're done. The office is very stylish and there is fresh coffee every morning.

Cons

The mission is not at the center of the organization, nor is it the driving force. Ego and appearance is more important than the mission. The culture is all about looking good--more than it is about doing good. If you are applying and don't hear back, even after several interviews, don't be surprised. Conversations around hiring and hiring practices are unethical and toxic. They had an intense hiring process, and then didn't contact people who they were not accepting. They wanted to keep everyone hanging, just in case. The expectation is that you work overtime (even as an hourly employee) without overtime pay, and without taking any breaks. Upper management is indecisive. They yell at junior level employees for not following their every whim. Workplace culture is toxic, to say the least. They don't trust junior level employees--viewing them as disposable. They play favorites. They make it clearly known if they like you, and more aptly, if they don't. It's not surprising to see so much turnover in the last two years. Pretty much all junior level employees have quit or been fired within a year or less. Senior leadership would rather exchange junior level employees regularly than take a serious look at themselves.

Solid mission but lack of cohesive leadership

Pros

Everyone working for that foundation believes fully and truly in the mission. Employees understand their impact and you can feel everyone's connection to the mission on every level on the foundation. The students that Pablove serves are beautiful and spectacular and are treated as such. There is a high understanding of the importance of the way the students see and understand what the foundation is doing for them and it carries through the entire organization.

Cons

The foundation is going through a transition period and is lacking the correct leadership in the right areas. Employees are being over-worked and under appreciated. Unfortunately because Pablove is lacking many MANY standard operating procedures, the on-boarding process for new employees as well as the chain of command feels confusing. I have had many past employees use the words "toxic environment" when speaking about the workplace at Pablove and I could not agree more. The leadership tends to lack understanding of what each departments needs are (which is surprising being that the full HQ is only made up of about 20 people) and this needs to be addressed before this organization can expand and grow in the way that it wants to.
