Pros

Nice coworkers. Relaxed work environment. Flexible working hours.

Cons

If you've ever wondered what it is like working with incompetent managers, you can find out here. The entire management team has never had any other job besides this one. This means they never worked in a different company. Never taken any type of management course or training. Never experienced a good or a bad manager themselves. These guys are doing it straight from college, and they are making it up as they go along. As far as they are concerned this is a good thing. This has led to occasional work place bullying from management, and the occasional firing. Parkman is a profitable company and the fact that they have already gotten rid of around 6 people is a really bad sign. Especially since it is a small company with less than 30 employees. (This isn't counting the people who left due to this bad work environment)

Thank you for your valuable feedback. One of the big challenges for first time founders and company builders, is how to recognise great talent. What constitutes a truly great team member? During the past 2 years, we have been fortunate to attract some super talented people who have set the bar really high. We have started to use these very talented people as a benchmark, and become a lot more stringent. We have learned that great management, and great leadership means that everyone can not fit in. Firing people is always the very last option we consider, but sometimes it is necessary. I am sorry for all our flaws, and I apologise for the negative experience. I hope you can look at it as a new opportunity and achieve great things in life. I truly wish all the best.

Not a good place to work

Pros

Remote work any day at any time with no previous notification. Nobody controls this and you don't have to log your hours.

Cons

Parkman is a very bad place to work. If you are looking for your first job, this is not a good place where to start. You will not learn anything good, only bad habits. If you are looking for a new job, you do not deserve a place like this. You can do better anywhere else. These are the reasons: Founders lack of professional experience, this is their first job. They are amateurs, they don’t know how a software company works, what practices are needed and how things work in the industry. Their manage the company as if it is a university project. The good reviews in glassdoor have been written by the founders and by request from them to a few employees. They don’t take the feedback as an input to work with, they believe it is just angry people who are against them. The CEO has zero knowledge of programming, designing or technology background, but he claims to actively participate in those activities and pressures the employees hurrying them up. Bad management. Founders believe knowledge comes with the name of the role they adopted, but they have no experience, no training nor interest in develop their management skills. Lack of a clear strategy: the goals are based in what airbnb and uber reached, but not in a historical information, market study or real projection studies. They really think that because uber did it, they will too. Lack of contingency plans: CEO said that he doesn’t believe in plans B, so he risks the company and its employers, basically he gambles with the company because in the worst scenario, he sells and he makes a good number out of it meanwhile the rest of the people will lose their job. CEO has the majority of the shares, it is his way or nothing, he’s a very closed mind person who believes he’s the new version of Steve Jobs. He cannot see outside the box. The company has the aim of being based in junior positions because junior people do not contradict, it is also the first job for most of the people. It is a bad first job because of the lack of good practices and professionalism. In the last 3 months, 1/3 of the company employees have been fired. Most of them were senior people that have been working here for 2 to 4 years. People with 2 years of experience are named senior as a way of keeping them in the company but not because they have senior skills. No metrics and as the founders don’t know anything about software development, they don’t know how long it takes to implement a feature. This means that most of the people say “one week” when they can implement everything in 2 days. Women are treated as dumb and they make remarkable differences in between genders. Lack of a good working and professional environment and zero trainings policy. The company does not offer constant training in important matters such as methodologies, programming, management, soft skills, etc. The managers do not care about their own training, so they don’t care about others neither. Lack of communication, listening to others and acceptance of mistakes. Managers blame others instead of taking responsibility. They do not iterate through issues or revise where the problems come from to avoid repeating situations. They blame investors, employees and external sources for their mistakes and they say that out loud, showing that they are not good in what they do. Lack of security and testing in their products. Their software quality is bad. Demands can come anytime due to serious security issues within the apps. No UX/UI designer has lasted more than 6 months or survived the trial period. The CEO believes he’s a UX designer and other people’s ideas are not taken. You must follow what he says instead of being creative as you should be in this role. Experienced developers leave the company after just a few months of working because they see how amateur the environment is. They have the zero investment in marketing strategy, which will lead to nothing as people do not know about the existence of the app or company without any marketing. Zero career opportunities. Zero company projections. There is huge fat cash bonus if they hire somebody you recommend and that person passes the trial period, but nobody recommends anyone since this is a terrible place to work. I think this says everything.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I am sad to hear you thought ParkMan was a terrible place, and I have read through your feedback and would like to share my thoughts on some of the feedback. Regarding the Founders: It would be crazy to assume that founders are all knowing gods. We are people just like you, and our experience is limited, which is why we want to recruit people who can help us and bring this company to the next level. Luckily, we have managed to recruit some top talent to the company with much more experience than ourselves. Regarding the reviews: I am not a big fan of conspiracy theories, but rather based my decisions on facts. Fact is that there are quire a lot of negative comments here, but also some positive. We are working on improvements and the goal is to have a happy, productive team. Bad Management: I recommend the book “Extreme ownership” by Jocko Willink, and “High output management” by Andrew Grove. Lack of clear strategy: I am sorry to hear that you did not understand our strategy. That is my fault. As CEO it is my job to communicate the strategy clearly to everyone. Lack of contingency plans: Sometimes, companies need to let a few people go in order to guarantee that the team can WIN. Sorry that you were the one we had to let go. Due to a strategy change decided unanimously by the board of directors, some great people had to be let go. Just because you get a job, does not mean you will have it forever. The world changes. I am sorry for that. The rest of your feedback I also find valuable, and we will consider your feedback as we develop our practices.

Pros

- Good people - Good office - Flexible working hours - You can see all company processes - You can see, how your work (contribution) affects company success - You grow up professionally and get new skills - New ideas are welcome, if they meet the reality (they are acceptable for others and there are resources to implement them) - There is good potential for company growth - Stable business model - Salary is always negotiable, if you feel, that you do more and do things better.

Cons

- Company still setting up many processes, as team is growing - Not much additional benefits (they supposed to be included to your salary) - This is still not big company, so more business risks then in big companies. But company has clear understanding on how to explore new markets and develop. If it works, there will be big success and everyone will be part of this success.

Thanks for the positivity. I am a strong believer in the next 12 months. We have most of the "growth pains" in the past now, and team feels very solid. Thank you for being a part of it.
